Translucent lay on the cold concrete floor, coughing and gasping. His body flickered between visible and invisible, like a glitching screen. He was weak. Vulnerable.
I watched him. **Felt** him. His heartbeat was frantic, his breaths uneven. He was scaredâ**really scared.**
Butcher knelt down, tightening the zip ties around his wrists. "There we go, nice and snug." He patted Translucent's head mockingly. "Now, ya just sit tight, mate. We'll have a nice little chat soon."
Hughie still looked shaken. His hands were clenched into fists, but his eyes kept darting between me and Translucent. **He didn't trust me.**
Good.
I stayed quiet, stepping back as Butcher and Hughie started discussing their next move. They were still figuring things out, deciding where to stash Translucent.
It didn't matter.
Because I already knew how this would end.
And **so did Translucent.**
He wasn't stupid. He'd seen the way I fought. The way I reacted before he even attacked. And right nowâ**he knew he was going to die.**
The only question was **when.**
His breathing slowed. His mind was working fast, calculating. I could hear his pulse **steadying**ânot out of calm, but out of **focus.**
He was planning something.
I smirked.
That's when I spoke. "He's going to escape."
Butcher and Hughie turned to me.
"The zip ties won't hold him. His skin is indestructible, but his body's still flexible. He can slip out if he dislocates his thumbs." I paused. "He's already started."
Hughie's eyes widened. "Waitâwhat?"
I **moved first.**
Before anyone could react, I kicked Translucent square in the chest, sending him **flying** into a pile of crates. The impact sent dust and debris into the air.
He let out a strangled gasp. His body flickered between visible and invisible as he struggled to breathe.
Butcher cursed. "Jesus Christ, mateâ"
I walked forward, ignoring him. My senses honed in on Translucent's heartbeat. **It was erratic now.** The panic was back.
Good.
I grabbed him by the throat again, lifting him up like he weighed nothing. "You were gonna run, weren't you?"
Translucent didn't answer. His eyes darted to Butcher and Hughie, **pleading.**
Butcher folded his arms, watching. He didn't interfere.
Hughie, thoughâhe took a hesitant step forward. "Wait, weâwe don't have to kill him, right?"
I ignored him. My fingers tightened.
Translucent choked, his voice rasping. "W-Wait! You can'tâ"
I **slammed** him against the wall. Hard.
Cracks spiderwebbed across the concrete.
I leaned in, my voice low. "You think this is a game?"
He tried to speak, but I cut him offâ**lifting him higher.**
His legs kicked uselessly in the air. His fingers clawed at my wrist, trying to pry me off. **It was pathetic.**
And then, I heard it.
The voice.
**God.**
A low chuckle in the back of my mind. Amused. **Eager.**
He was watching. Enjoying this.
Translucent's eyes were wide with terror. He knew. He **knew.**
He wasn't getting out of this.
I tightened my gripâthen **pressed my thumb against his throat.**
And I pushed.
Hard.
There was a sickening **CRUNCH.**
His eyes bulged. His body spasmed violently. He let out a strangled, gurgling soundâthen nothing.
His limbs went limp. His body flickered one last time before going completely visible again.
His neck was **crushed.**
I let him go. His lifeless body **dropped** to the floor.
Silence.
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Thenâ
Hughie stumbled back, his face pale. "Jesus Christ."
Butcher, on the other hand, just exhaled through his nose. He glanced at me, his expression unreadable. Then he stepped forward, crouching beside the body.
"Well, that's one way to do it," he muttered.
Hughie looked between us, horrified. "Weâwe were supposed to question him!"
I shrugged. "He wasn't going to talk."
"You don't know that!" Hughie's voice cracked. "Youâyou justâ" He looked down at the corpse, his hands trembling.
I could **hear** his heartbeat racing. The realization was settling in.
This wasn't just some mission anymore.
This was **real.**
I turned away. "He was going to run. And if he ran, Vought would've found us." I glanced at Hughie. "You would've been dead by tomorrow."
Hughie didn't say anything. His breath hitched. His hands clenched into fists, his knuckles white.
Butcher finally stood up, rolling his shoulders. He looked at me again, this time with something else in his eyes. **Interest.**
"Bloody hell," he muttered. "You really don't fuck around, do ya?"
I smirked. "No. I don't."
And just like that, I felt it.
God was still there. Watching. Laughing.
He was enjoying this.
And so was I.
Butcher stood over Translucent's lifeless body, rubbing his chin. He didn't look surprised. He didn't even look disturbed. **Just calculating.**
Hughie, on the other hand, looked like he was about to throw up. His eyes flicked between me and the corpse, his breathing uneven.
"Youâ" He swallowed. "You justâ"
I turned to him. "He was a loose end."
Hughie flinched. **Good.**
Butcher exhaled sharply through his nose, stepping closer. "Right. I got one question for ya, mate."
He squared up in front of me, eyes narrowed. The tension in the air shifted. **Butcher wasn't scared.** Noâhe was testing me.
I smirked. "Go on."
His eyes flicked to Translucent, then back to me. **Measuring. Weighing.**
"You're strong. That much is obvious." He tilted his head. "Question isâhow the hell did ya do that?"
I raised an eyebrow.
"Killing Translucent ain't easy. Man's got skin tougher than a bloody tank." Butcher's voice was steady, but his fingers twitchedâ**ready to grab a weapon if needed.**
Smart.
Hughie finally found his voice. "Y-Yeah! How did you do that? His skinâhis whole thing was being **unbreakable!**"
I rolled my shoulders. I could still feel **the power humming beneath my skin.**
Today's gift.
Thor's strength.
And **something else.**
I closed my eyes for a second, focusing. **The system had given me a secondary power today.** It wasn't just brute forceâI could **sense things.** Every heartbeat, every shift in the air, every microscopic vibration.
Matt Murdock's heightened senses.
Interesting.
I glanced at Butcher, then at Hughie. **Their hearts were beating fastâbut Butcher's was steady. Controlled.**
He wasn't scared. He was watching. **Studying me.**
Smart.
I smirked. "Trade secret."
Butcher's jaw tightened. "I don't like secrets."
"You'll live."
Silence. The tension between us crackled like a live wire.
Then, suddenlyâ**Butcher moved.**
Fast. **Too fast for a normal human.** His arm shot out, a knife flashing in his grip. He went for my ribsâ**a quick, efficient kill.**
But I was **faster.**
Before the blade even got close, my hand snapped out, **catching his wrist mid-strike.**
Butcher's eyes widenedâjust a fractionâbut I saw it. **Felt it.**
The moment where he realized **I wasn't just strong.**
I was something else.
I tightened my grip. Just enough for him to feel it. **Just enough for the bones in his wrist to creak.**
He gritted his teeth. **Didn't flinch.**
Respect.
I smirked. "That was cute."
Slowly, I let go.
Butcher didn't step back. **He held my gaze.** The knife was still in his grip, but he didn't try again.
Instead, he exhaled through his nose, rolling his wrist like it didn't just almost break.
"Right." His voice was even. "I had my doubts. So you're a supe."
Hughie **froze.** His eyes went wide.
Butcher's grip on the knife tightened. **This was it.**
The moment where **I either became their ally⊠or their next target.**
I chuckled. "Took you long enough."
Silence.
ThenâButcher's lips curled into a slow, wolfish grin. "Well. Ain't that bloody interestin'?"
