Chapter 6 - The God of Blizzard

Frisk took a silent deep breath to calm themselves as they looked at Boreas with a stern face.

"We're not the worshippers of the God of Storms nor his citizens. We are complete outsiders of Mondstadt; we came from a far, isolated place where barely anyone comes from outside our lands."

Frisk knew that, unlike Ventus and Barbatos, not everyone would accept or understand that they and Chara were from another world.

Boreas now paid full attention to Frisk as he noticed that, unlike the few humans he rarely got to see, Frisk was the only one who didn't run, scream, or attack out of fear. No one kept a calm face, showed a bit of bravery, only violent shaking until he saw proof of someone he would have never imagined.

"Outsiders, why are you here near the barrier that kept me from dueling with my enemy? Do you wish to seek confrontation from me?"

His powers surge and push Frisk and Chara back a bit. But they held their ground as they walked to where they stood.

"We wish to ask you not to attack the barrier; we are aware that it causes earthquakes, as everyone within and outside of Mondstadt can feel it. We also wish to ask you to stop using your Cryo abilities. I'm not sure if you have noticed, but your blizzard has caused such ruin within the areas that it could reach; snow is everywhere, and snow storms are making it impossible for people to go from one place to another."

Chara spoke as they saw Boreas closing his eyes as if he had taken their words in full thought. Boreas took a glance at the barrier that stopped him from reaching Decarabian.

"I must admit, outsiders. Of all the humans I have met, each of them shows fear and terror whenever someone dares to go outside of Mondstadt. I assume that they have not had a safe life within the protection their god had put for them. Just a moment of seeing me could have them assume I was like my enemy. A god who is cruel to their own people."

He walks around Frisk and Chara, no longer having the hostile expression he had.

"Looking back at those humans. And what you have said, I realized that what I have caused not only caused harm and hurt to those who suffered from my powers, but that I am truly unfit to be the Anemo Archon. Tell me, could someone like me ever be an Archon for those who seek protection and hope?"

Boreas asked, wanting to hear an answer from one of the twins.

"I'll be honest, God of Blizzard, if you have shown love and compassion and understanding of humanity, then you would make an excellent Archon. But after hearing, witnessing, and hearing your point of view. You wouldn't be able to be the Anemo Archon, even if you manage to get through and overthrow the God of Storms."

Frisk spoke of what they learned from Istaroth. They are certain that what they said could potentially be meant as an insult to the God of Blizzard. But they hoped that he wouldn't think of that.

Silence with a mix of a violent snowstorm was heard. Boreas closes his eyes once again before opening them in understanding.

"Then it seems that all my actions could only cause pain and suffering. To those who lost their lives throughout my war against my enemy. I understand that I wouldn't understand humanity, nor could I get their respect and prayers. Perhaps it is for the best if I perish rather than keep on living as my powers would only continue to bring ruin."

Suddenly, Boreas turned to face the two Dreemurrs who stood firm and ready for anything.

"May I ask for your names, brave mortals?"

The twins look at each other before nodding as they look back at Boreas.

"My name is Frisk Dreemurr."

"I'm Chara Dreemurr."

"Frisk and Chara Dreemurr. Such strange and unique names for you both. May I ask for you both to battle me to the death? I wish to test your strengths, skills, and abilities. If you both are truly skilled in defeating me, then I shall grant you my blessing as a departing gift."

Frisk gasps while Chara looks in shock at what he proposes to the two. He was serious, he was willing to die by two mortals who only wanted to ask him not to cause more ruin for the people who still remained here. It immediately went from talking to a fight for their lives.

"I suggest we move away from the barrier; no doubt our battle will attract my enemy's attention. I do not wish for you to be thrown into a battle with him. It's obvious that with his barrier that he's stronger than me."

Sensing that this was unavoidable, the two agreed as they began moving away from Mondstadt City and the storm barrier. It took a while, but they reached some kind of huge crater. As if a meteor or something had crashed in this particular area.

"This is where we fight. Outsiders… Ready to test your skills?"

Boreas said as the blizzard around them suddenly vanished, or at least that is what people who see afar. For the twins, it was like the blizzard had stopped all over the huge crater.

Frisk and Chara said nothing as they summoned their weapons. Frisk slowly opens their eyes, revealing that they too have red eyes, but their pupils are isotoxal, a 4-shape star. It was like Istaroth's eyes, but the color is white for Frisk.

The hostile feeling they felt from Boreas had emerged as Frisk and Chara were gripping their weapons tightly. Showing that they're ready to test their strength and skills.

Suddenly, they felt an incoming attack as they noticed the ground below them had turned into ice. With no warning, Boreas leaped up into the air, aiming directly at the ice that had appeared. Frisk and Chara quickly tried to dodge, but noticed their movement was a bit slower.

They also notice a lingering effect of Cryo on their body. Snowflakes appear one by one. Could it be that Cryo affects their speed and movement?

But before they could confirm, they were knocked back by Boreas, as they definitely felt the damage he had done to them. But from what they could tell, they (assumedly) lost 5 HP.

"Damn that hurt!"

Chara hissed as they helped Frisk to get back up. Frisk took out two apples and handed one to Chara as they both quickly ate the apple and recovered 5 HP. Or at least that is what they could tell from the broken system.

"I'm going to try to use my magic."

Chara didn't say anything as they were focused on Boreas' next move. But they suddenly grab Frisk's arm as they avoid another attack from the God of Blizzard. From what Chara saw, Boreas was charging up Cryo energy as he charged at the two, leaving a trail of Cryo.

"Try it now!"

"Luftkugel!"

A wind sphere was formed as Frisk launched the sphere at Boreas. But the moment it hit, the attack did nothing as if… Unless an Anemo attack is immune to its own element. Or perhaps it was because he is a god, he could just manipulate the Anemo element to not do any damage.

"Would it be the same if the skill absorbed the Cryo energy?"

"Hurricane Blade!"

But then their thoughts were immediately interrupted as they saw Chara activating their dagger Anemo skill to attack Boreas. The first blade strike produced a hurricane that didn't do damage at all, but did do some physical damage. But the next six strikes did a few more damage, but Anemo was caught with Cryo as the hurricanes became frosted, but that also didn't do damage.

Suddenly, Boreas reacted by attempting to slash both Frisk and Chara with his claws imbued with Cryo. Luckily, this time, the two quickly dodge the attack as they both distance themselves from Boreas, and they quickly analyze what they just learned

"Tsk! Only physical damage works so far, and Anemo absorbs the Cryo energy, which does nothing. Then again, this was something we should have expected from a god who can use both elements."

"Wait! Can we still use our fire magic?"

Chara's eyes widen in realization as this whole week, they have only been focusing on learning new abilities instead of checking if they can still use their old ones.

"I honestly don't even know if we can still use our old magic. But it's worth a shot, and—dodge now!"

Boreas did another charge attack as the two again dodged the attack. Both locked eyes with each other as they nodded. Both channel the fire element they had during their time back home. Toriel, Asriel, and Asgore taught Frisk how to use their signature fireball spell, as it took much practice and effort to master.

And thanks to a certain "anomaly" that possessed Frisk and did an unforgivable route, they were able to learn a unique ability which they call SOUL switch, as it allows them to switch their identity to Chara's. So they were able to relearn some of the old spells they had when they were still alive.

Anyway, they quickly recall how to use their fire magic as they knew it was probably their best shot. They were able to get a small flame to materialize, but needed more SOUL power to become a strong magic attack. Suddenly, the two felt time was beginning to slow down, as if they had activated something they were unaware of.

But they quickly assume it was a bit of Istaroth's blessing that is helping them to ensure that they have time to do what they need to do. Both of them used that to their advantage as they saw Boreas preparing to do another leap at them, and the ice below them began to spread.

They quickly got away from where the ice was slowly spreading as Boreas was already in the air. The flame in their hands became more engulfed and became a form of a ball. Then time begins to go back to normal as Frisk and Chara prepare to launch their attack.

"Taste this!"

The two said as fireballs launched out of their hands, and thankfully their aim was good, as every fireball hit Boreas, causing a good amount of damage.

"Yes! Direct hit!"

Suddenly, Boreas had ice spread from where he stood as it was longer than when he did his leap. It was able to reach the two as the Cryo effect became active again. They quickly tried to get away from what Boreas was about to do, but they nearly dodged the attack that had him doing a spinning slash.

They lost another 8 HP. It was fortunate that their coats provided 4 DEF to their stats, as they were able to tank what was supposed to be a devastating attack. The twins quickly ate another apple to recover their HP, as they assumed that because of their Half-SOUL, their max HP must have also been cut in half as well.

They aren't taking any chances of dying and expecting the SAVE file to just bring them back from the void. The SAVE file wouldn't even appear before this battle started, or during their time in Teyvat.

"Again!"

They launch more fireballs as they dodge and avoid more attacks from Boreas, as he did another attack that was used when the two were behind him. A tail sweep that shot out icicles that hit whenever they were in range or not.

Frisk suddenly had an idea as they told Chara about it, and they immediately agreed with the idea.

"Tornado Strike!"

"Hurricane Slash!"

They quickly activate their skills, not before using their fireballs on their weapons, as the Anemo absorbs the flames, and it becomes a Pyro attack. The tornadoes and hurricanes that Frisk and Chara made were engulfed in flames, as they did massive damage to Boreas.

The two attacks combined as it made a fire tornado with the hurricane coming out of the tornado as it went in and out three times.

"I severely underestimate you both. Both of you show that your teamwork is a force to be reckoned with."

Boreas commented with praise as Frisk and Chara felt that it was meant for something else. And they were right in thinking of it, Boreas began to run to the edges of the crater as a trail of ice, as it didn't disappear like the other ice that had appeared. It also didn't help that the atmosphere became a bit darker as the cold, for some reason, felt it had reached -70 ͦC.

Chara summoned more fireballs to make a circling heater to prevent frostbites. It was somewhat working as Chara channeled their SOUL power to increase the heat of the flames.

Frisk used the flaming tornado on Boreas, but he was too fast to be caught in the storm of flames.

Suddenly, he stopped as he charged forward to the two. He missed striking them as the two dodged as he began to run around again.

"You know, Chara, I am starting to believe we have just finished the first phase of this battle and are about to enter the second phase."

"Really breaking the fourth wall, huh?"

They quickly dodge another charge attack as he circles around once again. They watch him for a moment until he stops once more, as Frisk and Chara feel the Cryo effect again, as they immediately know ice appears below them. Boreas leaps towards the ice as they quickly dodge once again, as Boreas is now in the middle.

But everything stood still for a moment. He didn't move, yet, as if he was…

Boreas slowly began to gather energy as the blue part of his fur became light blue and glowing as he howled to the skies, as a burst of air pushed Frisk and Chara further away from Boreas. Like Frisk had said, the second phase had begun.

Boreas let out a loud roar as wind emerged from underneath him, pushing away Frisk and Chara from trying to get close to attack. They couldn't help but wonder why he was roaring and wonder if it meant something, until they got their answer…

* –r3@$ @t—ck 1n

Their system informed them as they quickly inspected the broken notification.

"His roar, or whatever it was, boosts his attack power."

Before either of the two uses their skills, they feel their determination warning them of incoming attacks as they look up and see icicles falling from the sky. They dodge a few of them, but with some falling directly and close, they weren't able to dodge the rest, as they were hit and lost 4 HP.

And this was the third time they had to quickly consume their apples.

They quickly had to dodge another attack that was the form of the slash attack, but the element wasn't Cryo; this time, it was Anemo.

"Hey, did those ice pillars just appear?"

Chara pointed out that they saw 6 pillars of ice, separate from each other at the edges of the crater.

"Must have appeared when the second phase started."

Frisk said as they dodged another charge attack from Boreas, who unintentionally hit one of the pillars as it exploded. Chara notices that he receives a bit of damage to his own pillars.

"I don't think those pillars do anything other than just being there and letting out ice within their range. And—watch out!"

Boreas raises his front legs as an ice path is forming in the straight direction to Frisk and Chara as they move away. But they got the Cryo effect as the ice path appeared too fast, but still were able to move away as Boreas slammed his legs down, which caused ice waves to appear on the ice path.

"There must be something else we can do! Wait!"

Frisk suddenly recalled the new spell they got from Istaroth's blessing. They realized that the new spell was from the Ruler of Time and one of the Four Shades of Celestia; they figured it would have at least an effect on a god.

"Time Stop!"

An image of a clock appeared around Frisk as the hour and minute hand that moved for a second stopped completely. Boreas' movement slowed down for a moment before stopping completely. To Frisk, they were a bit surprised it worked, while Chara was astonished by the power of the time spell.

This is an advantage they willingly took.

"Hurricane Blade!"

"Tornado Strike!"

The two launch their skills once again and apply the Pyro element as another massive flaming combo, as it did damage, although it wasn't the same amount of damage as it did before. They immediately figured that, thanks to Boreas' second phase, his defense must have increased, and his supposed HP had dropped to half before he lost more.

But it seems that the effects had quickly worn off as Boreas began to move again, he howled as he felt the damage the two caused. But he was a bit puzzled about how one second he had made ice waves, only to feel burns in his fur a second later.

Boreas raised his legs again as if he was preparing to do another ice wave attack, as Frisk and Chara quickly dodged in different directions. But they immediately noticed that this time no ice path appeared, only Anemo.

But before Frisk could use the time spell again, Boreas unleashed 3 vertical wind blades; the ones left and right were in the direction of Frisk and Chara. Both wind blades hit the two as they lost 4 HP.

"How many attacks does he have!?"

Chara hissed as they and Frisk ate their last apples, as they felt the urge to dodge again. As if their answer had been answered, small wolves that looked like phantoms had appeared and attempted to attack them.

"Damn it! I shouldn't have asked that!"

"This is why you should think before saying anything!"

Before Chara could respond, Boreas began to do the attacks he showed throughout the battle, as Frisk and Chara, who were already seen, dodged the previous attacks being reused. They move swiftly and quickly as they attack Boreas, strike after strike, while using their skills to further boost the damage.

Leap attack, charge attack, Cryo or Anemo slashes, tail sweep, spinning slash, icicle storms, wind roar, ice waves, wind blades, and phantom wolves. Boreas was unleashing all of his attacks one by one. Some activate at the same time, while some activate after the previous attack.

Frisk used their time spell again to ensure extra damage while he was immobilized. Chara did the same to see if the time effect was similar to Frisk, it was the same, with two users of determination using time spells, it was going unexpectedly well.

But they felt their SOUL power running out of energy as they knew they had to stop using their magic. Normally, it would have lasted longer, but having half a SOUL had greatly decreased their capability to use more magic in battle.

So they resorted back to physical attacks as they saw his HP bar, or they were able to tell, was about to reach zero.

But suddenly Boreas stops his attacks, stops moving, and no longer has the expression to hurt or test them.

"...Still have a long way to go. But that doesn't mean you're not ready to face my enemy. You both have potential, potential that is only half of what you both are capable of. Perhaps with my blessing, you will have the upper hand in defeating Decarabian."

Boreas slowly approached them as whatever was stopping the blizzard from approaching the crater vanished as the blizzard quickly let the snow gather within the crater.

"You both have my respect, my acknowledgement of your strengths, and have the right to have my blessings."

His body suddenly glowed, as if he was already preparing to do this way before the battle started. Chara realized something.

"When you wish to fight us to the death. This whole time, you already had the power to die willingly, but you just wanted to see if we had what it takes to defeat a god. You were the test to see if we have the power to fully kill a god."

Boreas only nodded as he bowed to the two mortals that stood before him.

"I ask for you, outside—no, Dreemurrs, to use my blessing as a means to undo my mistakes. For what a god should have been doing for the people. Protect whoever is left within this wasteland."

Frisk and Chara nodded, not saying a word, but Boreas had already sensed their answers as he looked towards the snowy sky once more.

With a final loud howl, Boreas disappears, as if his whole body and existence had vanished completely. But before either Frisk or Chara could have done anything, two icy forms of orbs gathered up and presented themselves to the two.

Frisk and Chara look at each other for a moment before letting their Half-SOULs reach the orbs. The frosty orbs went inside the SOULs as the two immediately felt the coldness around their bodies before it cools down. Sensing and mastering the new Cryo spell, Luch Sosu'ki.

They immediately felt the blizzards that invaded the whole region of Mondstadt had begun to clear away, as a long, heavy storm had finally finished its long-overdue job. They also felt the last remains of Boreas began to nurture the land of the wasteland he had caused.

Snow still remains, but that will soon melt away with the sight of the bright sun that emerges from the white foggy thick clouds. Just seeing the sun again after spending a week of dealing with the cold felt reassuring to the two Dreemurrs.

It was like they had just exited the underground again, as the first thing they felt or saw was the immense sunlight that hit their skin. It was again, truly captivating. Their determination felt stronger than ever before.
