The doors opened and with a sudden influx of hundreds of people the show started. It was odd why so many decent looking people needed matchmakers to help them. I had heard that in Japan and western countries people weren't replacing themselves. So I guessed that this is part of the problem.
"No one seems to be coming our way." Sayaki points out in quite a monotone fashion. We both look over to the prodigy Zackarast who seems to have a whole bunch of ladies asking for advice from him.
My brother walked up to us.
"Why are you here?" we asked in unison.
"To help you get some customers" we both look at each other before kicking him away. He doesn't realise that he is probably helping scare off customers.
"Well anyway remember the first lesson." he says walking away with his face bruised.
"What was the first lesson again? For timing. But we need to see people at stores before that."
"Make eye contact with boys to bring them over" I decided
Sayaki reluctantly followed along but it didn't seem to work even with her help people just went to the locals. Which makes sense also there's no point going to a stall that has no one because obviously they've talked to no one to offer as a partner.
There surely would be something on this in the book.
"Aha the book" I say a bit too loudly. Sayaki looks at me with a bit of concern. Facial expressions, when I did the look heaps of people came over to me.
bang !
Like a vacuum being switched on people instantly started being drawn this way for Zarkarastist line. However as it happened it seemed he switched on a vacuum. He brings out a dog dressed up the same as him. This is now a battle. I concentrate hard to relax and perform the face to perfection. Sayaki is concerned and confused. But we are losing. It's sad but I have to do it in order to have a chance at completing the mission. I swallow my pride. It feels like I've lost ninety percent of my personality.
"Sayaki do this face"
"why "
"Trust me"
However I was wrong not a single one of the faces worked. Was the book flawed? Sid wouldn't like to hear this. It can't be me not showing her right. Because I've practiced the face for the pretty person hundreds of times. Purely to make sure that the most effective was the one that works.
"It's not working. Your face must be so ugly that not any of them work"
"What are you even talking about, what are these faces meant to do?" Sayaki seems to apparently not hear my insult.
"Does your sister do any special look" My brother said he found this resource linked to Mayaki with apparently a whole organisation to the analysis of all her faces she has ever made. Surely Tayaki had something similar happening in my thoughts.
"I don't know where there are more strangers than sisters." Sayaki says kind of gloomily.
"Why did your brother even make us do this?"
"Think of a face."
"She always does this face in the mirror" as she does the face I hear a horde of footsteps. I turn around quickly, scared for my life. However no one is there.
"Do the face again." like an instant the balance is tipped. Our vacuum wins. I start doing a slight victory dance just to rub it into Zakaratist's face.
Now the real challenge starts.
"So tell us about yourself" I start with. The first person that sits down is a 28 year old woman, she is pretty and has glasses. She gives off a shy personality with dark black hair freckles with bangs.
"Well I guess I don't really know. I am okay at cooking, I like watching American sitcoms. I am currently studying at Uni" after 5 min we decided we needed to go onto the next person. We weren't getting valuable information out of her. I guess we weren't asking the right questions.
"So she likes guys with a slight up-turn nose. Black eyes but she might branch out to dark brown. She wants the person to go to the gym at least 2 times a week. She is obsessed with apples and with udons."
Sayaki reads out the intel she has gathered. I on the other hand look at my paper that just has what she said.
"How did you do that?"
"It's called reading between the lines. It's not what she says it's how she says it."
The next person was the complete opposite. He was energetic and liked sports quite full of himself. Once again Sayaki came up with an in depth analysis.
Four and a half hours pass just like that. The mental fatigue has started, obviously the training we have been doing has helped us to remain a high percent of work output during the time.
However it seems everyone stops. A loud tyre squeal comes to a stop. Where the door opens abruptly. A woman with sunglasses and glamorously dressed stands at the front, Sarina the CX co girl in the lambo stands there in the door, everyone seemingly parting ways for her to go to the front to the women. The crowd seems to wait as if this discussion was held time. I was wondering why someone like her needed a matchmaker for her to find someone. You could say that she has alright looks. The conversation ends in an instance that seems like good news to me. She walks over to the next person and then to the next until she sits down with Leroy the last one, well except us. Then she walks out all of a sudden. With the air pressure returning to normal.
"Zakarakist, what was that all about?" Sayaki calls over.
"No one can find who is the one for her. She comes every month like clock work, however from my calculations this month it is different to the normal months. The moon shines a different colour this month." Zakarakist says in an oddly insightful way for a 10 year old.
"I can't believe they Didn't know Sarina." says a short lady.
"Hey I'm here for your benefit" Sayaki says. I probably should remind her that it is the other way around actually.
A loud buzzer went all the people who didn't get a spot with the matchmakers all sighed angrily.
I thought all the matchmakers would sigh and have a tea break but we were wrong. All of them now went frantic grabbing the pages and pages of notes they had written. Even the lazy lady's were now in full efficiency mode moving around like elite athletes.
"We should spread it on the floor"
Sayaki sighs, I don't know why she is sighing. We head off, we just split it into two and then start matchmaking. It's not easy we both have to be thinking on a similar wavelength of who matches with. To remember all the people that we saw over the four and a half hours was hard.
We did make it in time. I don't know if it was as thorough as the other people but it should've been enough.
With the ding of the clock, marked the third hour. Then it seemed a new rush with people spilling in through the door even more keen to get in than before. Everyone has finished now. Zakarakist looking still slightly stressed. I assume he is still thinking about Sarina's partner or something. This was the easier bit: we just told them who we thought. Apparently people go to multiple places to see if different matchmakers think on the same wavelength. We even got told that our choices did not at all match with the other people.
"Do you know why people are standing and waiting around? I say as the room seems to pile up.
"It's obvious," Sayaki says, looking through the papers for the person in front of us. "Sarina of course, you heard she was a legend. They want to see who gets chosen for her this time." Well it seemed possible that they were all just waiting to see who Sarina got chosen to be with. From the mumbles around it seemed to be three possible candidates. Hiro, Siro, Miro. All three identical triplets go to the gym. It seems the exact same amount.
The anticipation started to build up in me and Sayaki didn't really know why there was so much anticipation. But it came near the end of the hour when she came striding, each step seemingly like it was momentous. The crowd parted ways as she approached the ladies. She sat down which made it hard for us to see, even through we were standing on our chairs to see interaction. It seemed intense, I guess they were telling her why they had made the choice.
"They failed, couldn't decide" was whispered throughout the crowd. Sarina walked over to the next one, Han. Han was definitely one of the best known he surely would've been the one who could decide to do it. However he shook his head telling her to move on. Everyone seemed to panic, surely three candidates who are all very similar there could be a decision made. Most people were talking among themselves. She walked over now to Imeru, Imeru the extremely skinny guy sat there thinking.
"Did he fail again" I ask, apparently knowing one as they don't seem to listen. The crowd makes a gasping noise and the whispers spread fast throughout the people.
"He said Siro," the man in front of us whispered. Siro was the front runner now. However she was walking over to the ladies. They were useless so I'm pretty sure. They won't come up with anything.
The people close gasp again and the whispers spread through. "Miro"
They ask all of the eight stations the score now looking 2 to miro 3 to Siro and 3 Hiro. She stands there stumped. She couldn't even see our station. The only way would be the crowd parting. However Han stands up now. With a straight face however a minascule untracable smile holds his face.
"I have come to my decision." she now walks over. The crowd parting ways. The crowd gasps and again disappointedly.
"He said Miro, that means three way tie." From what I can see Sarina slumps over. Her face looks disappointed.
"However there is one more person." Han says, definitely grinning now. He points our way.
"Sanaka and Hayata is the last store available." The crowd parted ways for Sarina who walked down towards us. Her eyes behind her sun glasses seemed cold. She sits down in front of our desk which we decide to also sit own. I felt quite nervous, my throat seemingly becoming dry.
"You didn't come to our table originally. Tell us everything about you" Sayaki says without blinking an eye. I guess she is used to dealing with high profile people.
"Well I like-" however before she continues anymore. Sayaki shakes her head.
"Not about relationships, about life." Sayaki says, dropping her pen.
Sarina surprisingly nodded and started talking.
"My first memory is trying to get my baby doll to ride my cat." okay I was not thinking this far back, I don't know if Sayaki was thinking this much or not. However she continued.
"I remained supreme throughout highschool. All the girls looked up to me, naturally I hadn't decided upon my future. It was a sunny day that day where you start sweating too much so you have to change into your spare shirt. Or just wear a PE uniform. When an old man looked at me and told me that I would be good at being an Idol. It turns out that this man was Amano the director. "She kept going till Sayaki lifted her hand up.
"It is an interesting story, If it was true." everyone seems to gasp, even myself.
"From what I have deduced your story is far more solemn than that. The cat is your first memory because it was that that showed you the mortality of animals. Your cat died, didn't it. Ran over because you forgot to close the house door."
Sarina nods, her face losing the usual attitude that it exudes.
"This is just the start of an unfortunate story, or what stems from it. The boy you longed for liked cats, part of the reason that it was a thorn in your stomach whenever you saw them play. He had a thing for Idols so your goal in life became that. The reason why you changed shirts wasn't because you were sweaty, it's because you realised that you could be getting sunburnt. Your somewhat fair skin and your orange tinged hair. You always wear sunglasses and a big hat. You are slightly albino. Something you were bullied for through highschool for. Naturally you were still a looker. But one day during middle school you were sitting on a bench at the park after school wondering if you could be an Idol did fate arrive. Amano and Osiki, Amano who you did not know at the time was a weird looking man with a purple turtle neck jumper on, but Osiki the number 1 Idol. her face was warmer in person but colder in person. Amano, the nut job for some reason, asked you to take off your sunglasses to reveal your orange tinged eyes. 'What do you want to be?' he asked you after you had done it. You told him an Idol but this time it was Osiki who interrupted 'why do you want to be an Idol?' you replied with the reason you had been thinking of all along 'to get a boy to like me'. Osiki frowned at you, telling you that you should never do anything purely for someone else. And this is where your deep fear of love came from."
She said in style. Sarina nodded to it all. Everyone seemed very impressed. I don't know where she picked up all that information. However the ladies were not impressed. "Yeh so? Tell us who you think.?" They call over from their stall. We look at each other.
"Sanaka You see it's Miro, his personality matches the boyfriends to perfection."
"But won't she want someone different, that's not the same as before to move on."
Sanaka, don't be an idiot. Its Miro"
"I don't know."
"Then who"
"I don't know"
"Then Miro" Sayaki stands up to the crows
"We have came up with a decision."
Miro was a good choice but something was wrong was it a gut instinct that told me otherwise. Why did my gut tell me something against logic. Wait didn't someone say to trust your gut, I remember.
"Leroy," I shout. The crowd or gasps. Leroy even gasps in confusion.
"Why did y-" Sayaki starts before she is interrupted by a clap , then a few more claps, both from over the other side. Everyone turns to see Han, smiling.
"She is right, my thoughts exactly." he says smiling. Everyone gasps.
"What are you talking about Han" the ladies scream.
"Zarckeratist was the only person to pay attention to the dates she came. And he told me she comes every month. On the same days that Leroy is here. A fairly obvious fact. Sometimes we over complicate relationships, and that it is merely that Leroy is good at doing the thing that she is bad at. She is short, he is tall, she is a bit albino, he is the opposite. She is very successful, he is not so much," Leroy gives him the 'did you really have to say that' frown. " We all saw a dimensionless view over these past few years. We all thought in a one step brain mentality, not thinking of the opposite. Leroy is the boy from her past. " he says walking to the table. I can't help thinking how much of a genius I am sometimes.
"You got lucky." Sayaki says through a surprisingly angry looking grin. No I didn't.
"But it's still tied" Imeru says, standing up.
"Well, don't you agree that I'm right?" Han says in surprise as none of the match makers agree with him.
"So once again no decision is made." the crowd sighs disappointedly. They start walking out. However the door opens to reveal a man, well my brother standing there smuggly.
"Finally someone opened the door"
"However, make it three votes for Leroy." he says smiling.
"Your not even a matchmaker" the ladies says looking at him like he is an idiot.
"Is that what you believe? Now tell me, are you willing to bet your life on this?" my brother says pulling out a small weird golden shield.. The crowd gasps.
"It can't be" "he's so young." I do not know what the big deal is.
"A former member of the seven heavenly matchers" A woman near me whispers. No he's not, he is just an idiot. I can't believe he created a fake plaque. But as I think this they check the shield giving a thumbs up to everyone.
"Now that's two heavenly match makers on one side. Democracy has come with a choice. Do you accept the choice that is made for you."
She nods everyone cheers, however
"Stop everyone." Leroy shouts at everyone.
"I need to know, did you really become an Idol for my sake." he says confusingly.
"Yes, Well I thought you loved them"
"Well back when I was 13" Leroy says pretty monotone. Everyone gasps, what the hell? Is he about to say he doesn't like Idols at all anymore.
"so , So, SOOOooO" Sarina starts breaking apart.
"But now thinking about it, maybe I do," He says in a kind of cute smiling voice. He grabs onto her hands. And picks her up and he walks out. The whole crowd is cheering. The ladies are even pulling some odd dancing in. Lots of people have their napkins out, dampening their tears.
"It's like my child has just found love." I heard a woman tell the women next to her. Even I feel a tear could potentially fall down my ear.
"How the hell did your brother become a heavenly match maker?" Sayaki yells at me but it barely reaches due to the crowd's applause. She was still thinking about that? How the hell would I know?
