Hearing no response from inside, the person outside the door slowly walked away. Their footsteps faded.
Lilith finally pulled her face away, her hand lightly pressing against Alexander's cheek, a soft half-smile dancing on her lips even as her chest rose and fell in quick, shallow breaths. Her face was flushed, warmth blooming across her fair cheeks, and her voice came out low but teasing,
"Why are you so desperate?" she asked, brushing her thumb under his eye. Her tone tried to joke, but her eyes… they were still caught in the way he looked at her.
He didn't answer right away. His gaze dropped to her lips, now red and slightly swollen from their kiss, and then without a word, he pulled her into a quiet hug. No games. No more teasing. Just arms around her like he didn't want to let go.
His body pressed into hers, and for a moment, all the tension in his spine gave away. He wasn't just trying to kiss her anymore. He was trying to breathe.
