A loud contemptuous chuckle came from Obed. "That is not shocking at all, my grandmother would rather bury an empty coffin than become the subject of gossip on the lane." He stated. "A missing coffin with two women dressed like ancient brides is not the kind of news she wants circulating out there."
His grandmother ruled the family with an iron fist, driving them all to be outstanding. She had strict rules about Montgomery's becoming the subject of scandal. Dead or alive, they were supposed to have spotless reputations.
Maureen had already decided on another reason why the burial had proceeded. "She is trying to cover up what is clearly a crime. If this kind of news leaks to the police....." she stopped and whistled.
