Raphael Earhart
Once, in a life I thought I'd left behind, Alonzo gave me a condition the moment I refused the title of Guardian.
– I'll leave you alone, – he said calmly. – But you are to carry out a task assigned by the Head of the Elder Council.
I agreed without hesitation. How hard could it be? One mission, and both Erin and I would finally be free from the family's suffocating gaze. It was probably something along the lines of "fetch this" or "eliminate that minor gang." At worst, maybe a contract on some disgraced noble. Trivial.
But when I finally met with the Elder and unrolled the scroll, a cold shiver danced along my spine.
– A massacre... – The words slipped out before I could stop them.
– Precisely, – the Elder nodded, his tone disturbingly casual. – Your task is to eliminate a group of traitors hiding in a village on the eastern frontier. Will you handle it?
