Mr. Sheng was about to leave when he opened the door only to see Gong Beiyao and Sheng Qianxia; he paused momentarily.
"Qianxia... Mr. Gong? Why have you come together?"
Sheng Qianxia hadn't expected her father to react so quickly and, without any mental preparation, she stepped back nervously.
Gong Beiyao calmly took her hand and greeted Mr. Sheng, "…we have something very important to discuss with you."
He said 'we', but Mr. Sheng seemed a bit distracted and did not hear clearly.
He didn't even notice them holding hands.
"Come in and we can talk," Mr. Sheng said as he opened the door.
Gong Beiyao and Sheng Qianxia followed him inside, one after the other.
Mr. Sheng began, "I was just about to go to the hospital to see Qingxue. If you had been two minutes later, we would have missed each other. Come and sit down, have some tea."
