Bolt, a nineteen-year-old with distinctive orange hair, finds himself reincarnated as a young boy named Kazuma in a primitive world after reading a mysterious book. Awakening in an unfamiliar house, Kazuma learns the local language and discovers that magic, known as "Essence of Aether," permeates this new world. His family consists of his mother, Lila, and his father, Yoshin. At age five, Kazuma undergoes a ritual revealing his unique skill, "addon," allowing him to acquire and use various skills. Kazuma's sister, Yuri, returns from studying at the royal capital and shares her spellbook, enabling Kazuma to learn numerous spells like "boost," "recollect," and "teleport." He experiments with his abilities, creating an underground base and defeating thugs using "time freeze" and "shadow blast," gaining a new skill, "dread weaving." Yuri warns him to keep his "addon" skill a secret due to its rarity. Kazuma explores a library, learning about different races such as elves, dwarves, sylvari, and Aetherians, and acquires the "invisibility" skill. Contemplating the world's level system, Kazuma realizes his extraordinary potential, setting the stage for future adventures in this magical realm. This is the actual beginning.
