In the fourth year of Xianfeng (1854), an Englishman named Pakwo founded the 'Imperial Hotel', which would later become the famous Peace Hotel.
The Peace Hotel was divided into two parts, the North building and the South building. The precursor to the South building was the Hui Zhong Hotel, and the North building was originally the Hua Mao Hotel.
However, all this happened 50 years later; the present-day Imperial Hotel is a three-story English-style building and the most luxurious hotel at this time.
The Songjiang Branch of HSBC rented rooms in the Imperial Hotel for their operations, highlighting one's strength and status by simply having an office there.
