Chapter 682 - Defeat 2

Translator: Cinder Translations

...

When Monterlit felt the increasing vibrations beneath his feet and saw the rising dust ahead, he was initially dazed.

What was happening? Had the orcs launched a counterattack?

The orc heavy cavalry, armored and armed with lances, emerged from the dust and charged toward the Aldor infantry.

Previously, the orc light cavalry had retreated in "disorder," skillfully covering the advance of their heavy cavalry.

Monterlit's face went pale as he urgently gave orders to prepare for the enemy.

"Form up! Form up!"

"Get in position!"

"Everyone return to your spots!"

The officers shouted, their voices hoarse as they tried to find their subordinates.

But it was impossible to reorganize them quickly.

The infantry had chased the enemy for quite a distance, and the original order was long gone.

It was in this chaotic situation that they faced the orc heavy cavalry's charge.

The orc cavalry formed a tight formation and charged, creating the effect of a hammer striking a massive block of cheese.

Swoosh!

The first unfortunate soldier was impaled by a sharp lance and sent flying.

Then the second, third, and fourth soldiers fell in succession, the orc cavalry cutting through them like a blade through flesh.

The moment the two sides collided, Aldor's forces suffered huge casualties.

The orcs were large, riding powerful steeds, covered in heavy armor, with lances in hand. The combined weight of rider and horse exceeded half a ton, and their charge, at over thirty kilometers per hour, was unstoppable by the scattered infantry.

The battle was filled with the sickening sounds of violent collisions and painful screams as orc cavalry trampled or smashed through soldiers, turning them into mangled bodies.

Many soldiers tried to fend off the charge with long pikes, but the orcs were protected by thick armor, and even a well-aimed strike would barely cause any damage—if it even hit at all.

The scattered Aldor infantry could not withstand such a powerful attack. Most of them had been hastily recruited and were nothing more than cannon fodder. They had been full of high morale when the situation was favorable, but when faced with this blow, their morale collapsed, and they became helpless lambs.

"Ahhh!"

Sir Monterlit, in charge of the infantry, was driven into madness.

The victory he had thought was assured shattered like a beautiful bubble, and he could not accept it. He could only swing his greatsword in a rage.

Bang!

A heavy blow hit his helmet, sending his entire body spinning through the air before crashing to the ground.

An orc heavy cavalryman had aimed at him but fortunately only grazed the side of his helmet with his deadly lance.

Before Monterlit could recover, the orc rushed off to pursue another target. Lying on the ground, he felt dizzy, his head spinning.

"Sir!"

Soon, he was helped up by knights from the Tavares family.

"My army? Where is my army? I need to regroup my army!"

Monterlit cried out, looking around but only seeing the corpses of his soldiers.

In the distance, orc cavalrymen and human infantry were still locked in a desperate chase.

"My lord, we have lost! Tom and the others have grabbed some horses. We need to leave before the orcs notice!"

"No, I must protect Her Highness the Princess! Where is the princess?"

But his family knights insisted, dragging him away in a frantic retreat.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield, the Aldor cavalry, originally made up of knights from various parts of Blackstone Pass, had been prepared to rescue the infantry.

However, the orc light cavalry surrounded them, using their mobility to trap them.

The knights fought fiercely but couldn't break free, helplessly watching the infantry be consumed.

Afterward, the orc heavy cavalry, having finished with the infantry, immediately turned and charged toward the knights.

The knights had reformed into a sharp wedge formation after pursuing the infantry, but the Aldor cavalry could not form any proper defense due to the harassment of the orc light cavalry.

Once again, the orc heavy cavalry tore through the cavalry formation with ease, repeatedly charging and causing devastation.

The Blackstone knights were much stronger than the infantry, inflicting significant casualties on the orcs, but it was not enough to change the tide of battle.

When Klein and Leicester, leading the flanking cavalry, arrived on the battlefield, they saw a horrifying sight.

The infantry in the center had been wiped out, and the knights on the left wing were on the brink of annihilation.

The bodies of human soldiers lay in every direction, and the air was thick with the stench of blood.

"Where is Her Highness?"

It was clear that things had taken a disastrous turn.

"Look, over there!"

Klein followed Leicester's pointing finger and saw the royal flag flying.

Surrounding it was a sea of orc soldiers.

"Quick! Follow me to rescue the princess!"

Both men, filled with urgency, led their cavalry to charge toward the royal flag.

—

Warder, using every ounce of his strength, swung the sword given to him by General Calem and struck at his opponent.

The sound of steel clashing echoed, and the enemy's sword broke under the force of the strike.

"Hahaha, what a fine blade!"

His heart surged with excitement as his one-eyed gaze gleamed like a flame.

The sharp sword swung again, and the enemy, disarmed, was unable to react before Warder swiftly slit his throat.

Blood splattered across the battlefield as the knight fell to the ground in defiance.

Suddenly, the air was filled with the sounds of combat as more of his cavalry arrived from all directions.

There were light cavalry with bows and heavy cavalry charging fiercely.

It seemed that the human center and left wing had been completely destroyed!

Warder let out a quiet sigh of relief before throwing himself back into the fray.

To delay the enemy's elite forces, he and his men had suffered tremendous casualties.

Even Warder himself had a large gash across his chest.

But he felt that the sacrifice had been worth it, as they had successfully delayed the enemy until their main force arrived.

As he saw the human soldiers still fighting, a sense of respect arose in Warder's heart.
