SITA
"Sita, calm down," Dad said, his voice soothing. "I'm on my way to join the two of you. I'll be there soon. Just stay with your mother and let the doctors do their job."
I nodded, feeling a small sense of relief wash over me. Dad was always the calm and rational one, and I knew he would do everything in his power to help my mother, but the big problem was the fact that Mom was stubborn and must have insisted that if not me, not even Dad should bring a doctor to her chamber.
"Thanks, Dad," I said, my voice shaking slightly. "I'm just so scared. I don't know what I would do if anything happened to her."
"I know, baby," Dad said softly. "But we'll get through this together. Just hang in there, okay?"
I nodded again, feeling a lump form in my throat. I knew my dad was trying to reassure me, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of dread that had settled in my stomach especially as I watched the emergency unit door still shut.
Text messages kept pouring in, distracting me from the worst-case scenarios I was building in my head until I heard heels hitting the floor.
My eyes snapped up to see Alessandro who had just emerged from the ward, his expression appeared serious but reassuring.
"W-what is wrong with my mother?" I asked, rushing towards him
"Sita, please come with me to my office," he said, his voice soft as he gestured toward his left.
Without any resistance, I immediately followed him.
"So, what do you think is wrong with her?" I broke the silence as soon as we entered his office but he replied to me only after he was seated.
"We've stabilized your mother's condition, but she's still critical. We need to run some tests to determine the cause of her illness."
That didn't sound good to me but I nodded, despite feeling the fear I felt.
"Okay," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "What do you think it could be?"
Alessandro hesitated; his eyes locked on mine. "We'll have to wait for the test results to be sure, but...it could be anything from a severe infection to...something more serious."
The fact that he hesitated…
***
I felt a cold dread creeping up my spine as I realized what he was implying. Something more serious. Like what? Cancer? A terminal illness? My mind raced with questions, but I couldn't bring myself to ask them out loud.
"Sita, I'm doing everything I can," he said, his voice soft and gentle as he got up to his feet, slowly circling his desk to come and stare at my face. "But you have to prepare yourself for the worst." he finished, his breath hitting my face.
I shook my head, almost entranced by him, feeling a wave of despair wash over me as his words made more sense to me. "No, I won't lose her," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I can't lose her."
Alessandro's eyes filled with compassion, and he reached out, taking my hand in his. "Sita, I'm here for you," he said, his orbs staring right at me charmingly.
Goodness! You're supposed to be worried about your mother. Not thinking of the doctor's lips. My subconscious gnawed at me but I ignored it.
"Alessandro..." I choked out, hoping he'd be the voice of reasoning but who was I kidding, he crashed his lips on mine, our tongues fighting for dominance as his hands roamed my body greedily.
His hot tongue disengaged from my lips as it found its way around my neck, searching for the sweet spot as he ravaged it, leaving behind a trail of wet burning kisses on my skin.
God Lord… I groaned, suddenly feeling hot as I threw my head back, hoping to give him more access to my neck.
His mouth greedily went back to find mine once again and he kissed me senseless, his tongue tasting every corner of my mouth and only stopping when I was out of breath.
As soon as we parted lips to catch our breath, I felt a flush rise to my cheeks. What was I doing? My mother was fighting for her life, and I was indulging in a passionate kiss with my lover.
But before I could thoroughly process my thoughts, a knock on the door broke the spell. "Dr. Alessandro, I have the test results for the patient in the emergency ward unit," a nurse said, entering the room with a file in her hand.
That was close I thought, feeling thankful that we weren't caught. I clasped my arms over my chest causing my breasts to puff up a bit as I rolled my tongue in my mouth, reeling from his taste.
Alessandro's eyes snapped to attention; his face quickly assumed a professional expression. "Thank you, Suri. I will take a look right now." He said grabbing the file.
I felt a pang of worry as Alessandro took the file from the nurse. What did the results say? Was my mother going to be, okay?
Before she left, the nurse, nodded her head in my direction as if acknowledging my presence to which I nodded back.
As Alessandro scanned the file, his expression turned grave. "I'm afraid the results show that your mother's condition is more severe than we thought. She has a rare genetic disorder that affects her blood and bone marrow."
My heart sank to the deepest part it could. What did this mean? Was she going to be, okay?
But before I could ask or say anything, Alessandro's eyes locked on mine, his gaze filled with determination. "We'll do everything we can to save her life, Sita. But we need to act fast."
I nodded, feeling a wave of despair wash over me. My mother, the woman who had raised me, loved me and cared for me, was fighting for her life. And I was powerless to stop it.
"I'll set you up to be immediately tested to donate bone marrow to your mother".
"So, all I need to do is donate bone marrow and she'd be fine right," I asked to confirm as Alessandro gathered some files on the table.
