Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - Soul-Finding is Solely Important

Miya glanced at Sia. Sia glanced at Miya.

Sia Warsaw put her hands on Miya Kruschnikov's. Slowly but surely, her heart began to pound. Speaking softly, her voice began to carry. "Miya, you know my eyes. I can see the karma of the world. I can also see the hearts of those around me. Veil's heart is one that encompasses the world. He is soft, and carefree. While he desires for the world to be a better place, he understands that he can't do that of his own power, and that strengthens him. His heart towards those around him is all-encompassing. He wants those closest to him to feel whole in the most whole of ways. When you're speaking to him, you're his full heart- no matter who you are.

With you, Miya, I see your carefree nature. Wherever you are, you can find happiness. Similar to Veil, you embrace what you have in the moment and need nothing else. I see your kind nature and your desire to keep others in the light. Of course, I have seen you willing to hurt others but it comes from your caring heart, not your desire for evil.

...I'm not the same. I want him, I want all of him. I can't think of not having him. If I ever have to forget him I'll forget myself. I don't know how I'd ever cope with the knowledge he's dead. I don't know how strong the karma between Veil and I stands... In truth, it blocks 90% of my vision at nearly all times.

As for you, our bond has always been strong. Since we were little, being at each other's sides just... made sense. Our karma is linked. I don't know how far... I just know that it is.

It's not that I don't trust you. I just... don't trust my own desire.

But in this one matter alone, my heart is blind. I cannot see, nor fathom the great depths of the future. Are we linked because of him? Or are we linked because of us? I cannot see. I cannot BEAR to see, for my heart is just that heavy on the simplicity of this matter alone."

Miya took Sia's hand in hers. "Sister..."

A moment of silence ensued. A moment more than ever shared between them arose. Neither spoke for over 3 hours. They just sat together in one another's arms. Eventually...

"Miya, I trust you. I'll leave it up to fate."

Veil finished his circulations. All the Tier 1 Spirit Viruses had been linked. Standing up, he stretched and yawned. While he couldn't control them quite yet, he was sure that they couldn't hurt him. He could sense their positions and had hold of their life and death. Otherwise? Nope, not much there. 'Eventually...'

He thought. As for now, he was feeling the subtle gains that the contract was giving him. They were small... But they were, indeed, tangible. 'Maybe there's some more easily breedable pets I can use... Guppies maybe?'

Poof! All of a sudden, his energy left him! He fell backwards... onto the bed. Sleep is, after all, a daily requirement.

----~~~~----

An old man looked into a wooden bowl. The water within was mystical - it swayed to an odd rhythm. Furthermore, it was clear like water: albeit the violet, sky blue, and golden hues that whooshed here and there through it.

The old man had another name- Kubble, Lord of the Skies, Druid Master of Avalon, High Ranger of the Western Cosmos, High Councilman of Castle Thier, Wounder of the Zegras Beast, Disaster of the Nine Calamities, Ticket to Wealth, Guardian of the Ancient Forest, Deceiver of Men and the Great Wolf of Adestine.

But old man was fine for now. Titles were meaningless here, and he had other preoccupations at the moment. Within the bowl bespied a mystery: the truths of a different time and a different place. A place far from here. A place with a boy knocked out on a bed, a hedgehog and a phone at his side.

A chubby little green-and-gold squirrel sat down next to Kubble. It looked absolutely harmless. Kubble turned to look at it. Immediately, it's face changed. "What, are you looking at me?!?!" It spoke in the chitter-chatter language.

Kubble looked in its' eyes. Hiding within them was a look of fierce and tyrannical destruction. "Hmph, you'll do." Kubble spoke. He cast a spell of supersilence on it. Supersilence was a custom made spell. It locked the poor squirrel down on logical, emotional, sonar, spatial, ki-based, smell-based, chronological, mammological, and more bases. Basically, anything other than sight was locked down.

Kubble scribbled a bit on a piece of signboard. He stuck it on the squirrel's neck and kicked its butt.

The squirrel flew through several dimensions until it reached its end destination.

Harry Dickens could be considered a man of taste. As such, he despised the bed sheets he slept on last night. Since he was out of town, he decided to see what the mall hotel was like- after all, it was a 24/7 kind of place.

It was lame.

Harry's manifesto in life could be considered as "working the hardest, for the best." But in fact, his lifestyle didn't show that easily. His worldview precluded that hard work was, in fact, a series of trade-offs. The best for the worst, in order to receive the best elsewhere.

'At least the pillows felt kind of nice...' Harry's mind shivered as he remember a past stay in a motel off of the beaten path. He continued packing his bag and moved to go outside his room. He needed to find someone today. Somebody worth poaching, or he'd have to find some money elsewhere. And THAT was never worth doing.

----~~~~----

Veil woke up. It was a sunny day, but that fact, indeed, was unbeknownst to him. His daily Vitamin D came from the lights above- he was in seclusion, after all.

Rubbing his head, he asked Nano in a weary tone, "What time is it?"

"7:02, Sender."

"Ugh." The one word reply came through, loud and clear. As Veil began to get ready for his day,

"We have received several packages. I took the liberty of paging them through the door with my spatial abilities. We have received the nanotech equipments regarding the nanocell creation and spirit virus manipulation. You have a new Spirit Link courtesy of Kubble. In addition, I took the liberty to get you some lightning-retardant pants. This way you won't lose your dignity whenever you get slammed by 10 THOUSAND BOLTS OF LIGHTNING SENDING SENDER STRAIGHT TO THE DEPTHS OF-"

"Alright, Alright, I get it." Veil interrupted.

"It's fun to have fun, Sender." Nano pouted.

Veil rolled his eyes. Nano seemed to be... moving on from being just another machine intelligence.

'Well, my spirit's back to full power. I guess I should go ahead and link that beast he mentioned.' Veil looked around the room. in the corner sat a squirrel that appeared to be frozen in time.

The squirrel was green, with yellow lightning bolts carved into its sides. It honestly looked more like a chipmunk, but hey, squirrels are squirrels. This one was pretty chubby, and the little chubby cheeks was indeed adorable. The squirrel had a sign around its neck that read, "Link me, or prepare to face ultimate disaster in your house, room, and board, and everything else I touch. I go live in 24 hours."

"When did this guy arrive?" Veil asked Nano.

"About 23 hours ago while you were still sleeping."

"Wait, how long was I out?" Veil's wheels started spinning.

"From 7:13 P.M. to 7:02 AM, that makes approximately 36 hours. Regarding Sender's sensor data, it appears that after you run on low Soul Energy for long enough, you'll require a long sleep until it is fully repaired. Due to the recently created spirit links, your soul energy is at 70% prior capacity. The squirrel is at the edge of Tier 2. It should only take approximately 50% of your total soul energy. However, I will recommend additional sleep after linking. In further updates for this morning, your personal bank balance is at 12.8 million dollars. I have added the nanotech components and am working on creating the nanocells so we can utilize the Druid Assimilation Sutra. I should have enough of them created by tomorrow morning."

'Righty-o.' Veil thought to himself. 'Let's do this- Honke de Iku Ze!'

Throwing his right arm backward, he threw his left arm forward and touched the squirrel. There was a secondary form of the Druid links- it was faster and much less complicated to touch the spirit ally itself. If you couldn't though, because it was something like a Virus, that was A-okay: it just took longer.

Almost the full hour later, Veil finished. He was once again, tired. He through a cold pocket in his mouth and crashed again. This time was much better, though. He only slept about 3 1/2 hours.

"Welcome back, Sender. The time is 10:35 A.M."

'Next step should be the Tier 2 Tribulation. That being said, I should probably level my defenses up a bit first.' Veil looked over his shoulder. 'Those would be good for training about now. I'd like to see what's in the nearby stores, but that will have to wait until after the tribulation.'

Veil looked over at the squirrel. It wasn't moving, as per his commands. However, it was jiggling in place so fast he knew it needed to move. 'Hehe. It looks like it has to pee.' He giggled to himself in his best villain laugh and smirked.

"Nano, release the containers for SV-1 and SV-5." Nano affirmed the command, and the two Spirit Viruses left the container and came closer according to Veil's will. Veil commanded them, and his training session began.

SV-5 began to rip apart his body. After a while, SV-1 began to heal him. Quickly, his body began to grow tougher. It felt pretty rough, though. It felt like a freight train running at 500 miles an hour coursing through his bloodstream and ripping his heart out of his chest as he lost and regained the feelings of every inch of his nerves all over again. Veil was able to dissociate, though, and so he honestly didn't care that much as he just waited for it to be over. After a while, the Spirit Viruses exhausted themselves, and Veil fell back asleep.
