Gently, Archie tucked a loose tendril of hair behind her ear, his touch lingering.
Because in the end, he couldn't survive without her.
And he wouldn't.
He blinked when she looked up at him, her voice trembling as she spoke, "Why though? Why couldn't you just be unreasonable and pull me away from Brian? Whether I wanted it or not at the time?"
A deep exhale escaped his lips. "The answer," he said softly, "is what I told your sister. I can fight a million men who want you. But not the one man you want."
Avery's lips quivered as she whispered, "Well... now that you're the one man I want, what then?"
Archie's eyes darkened with something dangerous and soft all at once. "How about we talk about that after you're done eating?"
She tilted her head, a teasing spark dancing in her gaze. "How about I eat something else... instead of that food on the table?"
