Chapter 37 - A Past of Dreamers II

Asriel and Asgore stumbled down onto the ground landing onto their butts, they had a soft landing as pleasant grass would brush up against their fur. But it was more than that, something about this place's whole existence felt like it was putting them into a certain angle of peace. The air that blew around the beautiful verdant expanse felt light and rejuvenating. It felt as if they had never actually taken a breath of air before this, it was something entirely new. The way the wind softly blew past them with a slight chill, yet not in a way that gives a frigid feeling, but allows one to become relaxed with it. They shuffled around slightly in the grass and stood up with big bright eyes staring off in front of them seeing Toriel only, it didn't look like there was actually anything else there? But when they stood by her side they would see what was past her. It was an extremely long winding path that seemed to have no end going so far it broke through the limits of all vision. Yet despite this they did not look disheartened, instead they were more so still wowed just looking at the expanse. It was like looking out into space as the sky was a cosmic mix of color, purples and blues smudged together to create a wondrous horizon. This place seemed like it was the closest to heaven someone could get without actually reaching such a holy place. Just staring off at it could make someone shed a tear at the beauty of the world, at the beauty of nature.

After Asgore and Asriel took a rather good look at everything and took it all in, their process of thinking would find itself interrupted. The pleasant and soft voice of Toriel made itself apparent, with a slightly wavering tone from its usual activity; it seemed to be a bit more serious than its usual form. She held her hands to her sides and gripped them tightly, there was a hesitant yet determined look in her eyes as she looked at the same abyss that they did.

"This is known as the winding snake path, it has a seeming lack of an end and will go on forever. This is a test for all those that wish to pass, only the mightiest may come or go. So this is why those who are not meant to be here do not pass." She would look back at them as her face would shift to a more reassuring one, she swept away some odd concern that she had about it. "Yet I believe in you Asgore, and of course my great child Asriel." Toriel placed a hand onto the head of Asriel patting him crouching slightly down to him. Her hand then lowered and turned to the winding path. She then stepped onto it and wandered its walkway starting slow for the both of them to follow.

Asriel would pause for a moment, seeming stunned for some reason after his mother had patted him as a puff of red came over his white cheeks. He would then yell about he wasn't a kid and rushed right after her onto the pathway. Asgore on the other hand would only look onto the scene that unfolded before him and simply shook his head from side to side in seeming disappointment. Yet the rather buoyant smile on his face seemed to disprove the notion that there was any form of negativity that was being felt. The king of the past then started to make the trek along with his family on the winding path…

===================================================================================

The family had been wandering for some time sprinting off into the expanse, it had been something that felt like minutes… hours… days… weeks? None of them knew the true extent of time that passed as the world bore no indicator of the passage. This only added to the sense of dread of the endlessness. The thought that no matter how hard that they tried there was a certain barrier that made all their efforts fruitless, this likely being how many were drawn out of the path. It didn't seem to be getting any closer, if anything it seemed to be getting longer? A path that stretched beyond the very idea of infinity itself. The realm itself is incomprehensible to their normal means of thought. It felt like at this moment they should stop, turn back and not return. Find another way to obtain strength and not deal with the meeting that would happen on the other side of the bridge.

Yet if one were to actually look past all these cognitive assumptions of what the average people may do in this hopeless situation against the very idea of an endlessness, they would see only people who broke that mold. For the Dreemurrs were in no sense the average people nor the average monsters. It not even relied on the fact of their status as boss monsters, but it denoted their very title that held true to them. They were a family of dreamers that could not be quite put down from their ideas, their hopes and dreams reigned supreme. It was like an unstoppable force but within the form of a thought, it was a collective thing within them all… besides, how would one even try to stop an idea? You can kill the originator of the thought, destroy their brain, change their mind. Yet the thought doesn't cease to exist within reality. It will always remain in one form or another. And that abstract form would always remain inside of them.

With that force of persistence carrying on within them, they would finally see the end and skid to a halt right before the true entrance of the realm of the yokai. They seemed to be in some sort of hub world, there were a multitude of portals that went to separate smaller stations for different kinds of yokai that had existed. The hub itself seemed to be pretty desolate, as if it wasn't one that was used very often. IT seemed they would be one of the only ones to use this dusty old thing in 1000's of years. Of course that made sense as not many would endure the trek from the start all the way here in the first place, and there is likely an easier place to leave for the established residents… Asriel and Asgore hoped at least. But in Asgore's mind he would just take it as some exercise. He had let himself go a bit after coming to the surface, but it seemed like all that had already gone in a jiffy. Toriel now pointed off towards a white portal for them to all step into. They nodded their heads and stepped to the portal. This time, there was something different. An unnatural presence could be felt behind the portal, thousands of them to be exact. IT felt extremely crushing to both Asgore and Asriel even making Toriel pause for a moment. There was a feeling of imminent death right past the portal, and despite this they would all stumble into it in orderly fashion.

===================================================================================

The trio would now appear somewhere else. Where they were now had a noticeable lack of anything that could be considered dangerous factors, it looked beautiful, it kept much of the vibrant verdant fields and vegetation growing around as the previous location of the start had. There was one difference here though, there were paved roads and houses around showing that a civilization had formed within all of this. It seemed like an ancient civilization with how outdated their style of living was, but at the sametime their architectural technique seemed advanced. The buildings they crafted were made so sturdily and with not many materials at all.

"My family's house is down by the far end, it shouldn't take long to get there." Toriel would say quickly.

Now they were knocking at a door, the house that was before them seemed rather imposing, far larger than the others that were there and seemed to hold a sense of importance with its upscale design placed onto its framework. They received no reply for their calls and would be left in silence for a while. And then footsteps could be heard from the other side. And then the door would be opened slowly… behind the door there would stand a rather imposing figure.

The being behind the door stood equal in size to Toriel. They had fur that lined their entire body and poignant ears coming from their ears. They had a rather gruff tone and aged face, fur trailed from their face in the form of a beard. The man adjusted his eyes and suddenly opened them wide when they recognized who was at their door.

"Toriel…?" The man seemed at a loss for words as he didn't continue speaking after seeing Toriel at the door, but then would narrow his eyebrows looking at Asgore and Asriel behind her. "Toriel, who are these people? You know we do not often let outsiders in here. And we have a LOT to talk about since you decided to leave us. Come in and let us talk."

They would all shuffle into the building, there was soft carpet beneath their feet, they felt like just sinking down into it and falling on the ground right there, it gave off an insatiable level of comfort. Everything within this plane of existence just seemed so unreal. The decorative design of the house was something that could not really be described in words, yet everywhere that was looked it was beauty that could only be found within nature. And some seconds later they all shuffled into seats. The room grew quiet for a moment as Toriel spoke up.

"This is my ex-husband." Pointing to Asgore. "And this is my son." Pointing to Asriel. "I have brought them here, to our realm so that they can know the rest of their family, it only seems right doesn't it? And my son especially should learn of our people and our history, don't you think dad?"

Asgore would seem to spurt out the water he was drinking when he realized that was Toriel's dad. The difference in their demeanors and the striking difference in appearance had certainly been shown. Besides Toriel sported gray fur while he had a stark white.

Asriel on the other hand thought it was somewhat cool that this was his grandpa, he seemed to have a rather elegant and powerful presence about him, though he didn't see much with his optimistic and hopeful nature.

Her father would wait a moment before responding, the man collected his thoughts and spoke back with a formal tone, only slight hints of his true wrath in his voice. "So you avoided your royal wedding to go marry some… monster? And it didn't even work out." He placed his elbow on the side of the couch and held his head in a palm pinching the bridge of his nose, wiping it down and sighing. "You are a heretic of our society Toriel I am dismayed by your actions, blasphemous! I shall give you another-"

Asgore placed a hand down on the table with a slightly excessive force to garner the attention of Toriel's father. "Sir." Before Asgore continued the man would respond with a terse "Mr. Adam to you." Asgore would cough. "Mr. Adam, do not disrupt the life of Toriel, she has not made any great bad decisions, she is one of the reasons that monsterkind is free now, she is a wonderful lady. She does not deserve to be punished for following what her heart wants. Does that not seem absolutely horrid to you? To not have a choice in whom you love."

Asriel would look worried from side to side, but then his eyes locked onto Adam and bore into him along with his Father's. Asriel showed a back up to the point that his father had made, and would not want for his mother to be harmed in any sort of fashion.

Adam held his fist as it shook slightly on the side of the couch displaying his vehemence in the situation, it paused in its motion and he dared not continue, he had something else. His face would soften as he gazed towards Toriel. "There is something of more importance, it has been far too long for me to bother you about what you did now. But unfortunately Toriel, about a year ago your mother had been found dead."
