The dark dragon loomed over them, its huge mast casting a darker shadow on the forest that was already dark.
Instinctively, Vinn took a step back especially when Canine seemed to cut her a glare. It was clear the dragon didn't like her a bit—that much had been made clear from when she tried to bind him to her through dragon beckoning.
But Xander took an assertive stance, holding her hand like they were teenagers, the act forcing Vinn to stand squarely by his side. His eyes pinned Canine though, as if threatening it to not come any closer.
His voice serious, he said, "Do you remember what it is like to take the bond? Know that once we take this step, there will be no going back. Nor will you be able to decide to sever yourself from me."
His words were both a warning and a reminder of Vinn's resolution to take this step. She didn't need to reexamine herself, she knew what she was doing. More than that, she remembered what it felt like to have the trifecta bond.
