Chapter 14 - Language of the Lost

London, Earth ???_

The day was monday, with Great Britain currently in the middle of an early afternoon. The sun was shining, it just wasn't visible. Despite it being the middle of Summer for the continent of Europe. A fact that would annoy any none-local who visited the island.

For John Constantine, that was simply par for the course. Something not to be noted as he sat in his Bermingham apartment, a glass of whiskey in one hand and a pizza slice in the other.

"Ah..." The man sighed leaning into his seat with a sip of his whiskey, looking at the grandfather clock he bought a few years ago at a yard sale.

"Fucking hell," Scowling at what the face told him, John couldn't stop the curse from escaping his lips.

The clock read half past one, meaning it was almost time to leave the house for the detective. A fact he did not like one bit. To the con artist, every time he left his apartment a new problem arose out of nowhere. But it's monday, meaning it's one of his grocery days.

Yesterday he had to dismantle a thousand year old spaghetti worshipping cult. And the day before he had to hold off an invasion of aliens, who were worshipped by some secret society he couldn't care less about. Today? Only Fate knew what the man had to go through.

"Alright, let the bullshit begin," Constantine sighed in resignation as he reluctantly got off his chair and stretched.

Promptly chugging the rest of his once full glass right after, mentally prepping himself for the antics he assumed would soon insue. He'd rest his glass on the coffee table and head to his door, already wearing his signature white shirt, red tie and brown trench coat.

With one final glance at that god forsaken clock, the man opened the door and headed out for his usual grocery run. Only to stop one step in on his journey, thanks to meeting four unfamiliar but unnaturally attractive women of different shapes and outfits. Headed by a particular blond.

It was Mugen and the Four goddesses of Gamindustri, with the only male there sporting a 'I got news' look in his eye. John only knew the former, however, thanks to one of the few prodeges he'd ever take.

With a forced smile, the chronic smoker barely tried to hide his surprise and confusion as he glanced between the four new faces there, taking in their abnormal outfits.

That being Blanc's white and brown dress that gave up at the mid thighs, with a matching winter coat and hat, as well as a lacking chest. Vert's long green and white dress with a massive gash of a cut all the way up to her hips, lined with a gold hem at the bottom, on top of having the most... assets out of the four. Noire was wearing a white and black dress that also gave up halfway past her thighs, with black thigh highs and boots. And the main character herself sported a white parka with purple accents, including that signature N zipper.

"Wagwan Constantine?" Mugen waved, opening his hand for a shake at the same time.

"Mugen, the fuck is this shit?" The detective wasted no time in asking the hard hitting questions, waving his free hand at the goddesses for emphasis. Who were all in their 'human' forms at the moment.

"This is who we're relying on?" Noire piped up skeptically from Mugen's left side, pointing an accusatory finger at John. Who was too busy being confused to be insulted. "He looks sleazy as all hell and then some!"

"Yeah, well I don't see you showing up to some foreign land and being greeted by a local," Blanc refuted before anyone else could speak, standing arms folded behind the CPU of Lastation. "Not to mention, this guy looks like he's got some kind of power to him, even if that sleazy comment wasn't completely wrong..."

Mugen found himself a little frozen, not because he didn't have anything to say, but because his fellow members of Gamindustri looked like they're in the middle of something. That and he'd be lying if he said what he was watching wasn't a little interesting. The same could be said for good ol' Johnny boy too.

"Girls, let's try to be a little more civil, hm?" Vert added from the lancer's right, trying to deescalate the situation like a minimum wage fast food worker. "After all, Mugen said he's the mentor of Gynesis. You know? The guy who became an ALU?"

Vert had a point, this was supposedly Gynesis's mentor. But in what way exactly? That status alone was not enough for Lastation's patron goddess. She needed answers-

"I'm still tilted about the fact that almost the entire convo got off screened..." Neptune interjected from in front of Vert, her arms also folded. "I dropped so many spicy memes and nobody was there to hear it!"

Was this a clever ploy to shift the topic of the conversation away from John and whether or not he's worth spending time on? Or was it simply Neptune randomly showcasing borderline autistic levels of social ineptitude out of nowhere? Hard to tell with this woman. Either way, everyone shifted their gaze to her. Some in confusion, Mugen in disbelief, and Blanc in blankness.

"What? You were there," Planeptune's patron goddess shrugged her shoulders at Noire, the one who technically started this all.

"Anyway..." The black haired Lastationite moved on, deciding that carrying on the current topic would be a massive waste of her time. That or she didn't want to give into Neptune's nonsense. "Remind me as to why we should trust this guy?"

Okay nevermind then, she's still very much sticking to the original topic. Much to Mugen's dismay and slight annoyance. Meanwhile John continued to lay witness. 'This shit is leagues better than last week Sunday...' He thought to himself watching Mugen answer the strange woman's question about him.

"We've been over this already, Lady Black Heart." The male Leanboxian spoke slowly, his voice in a clear customer service tone.

"John Constantine is our best bet in knowing what in the fuck is going on. For some reason, Histoire doesn't know more about the banes of your existences, and neither does any other Oracle currently breathing." Mugen added, turning his attention to the man of the hour. "John, you know anything about VPUs?"
