Before Cana reached the Nirvit Research Institute, Karna had reached the location where Brain was controlling Nirvana.
"Karna Vermillion," Brain muttered as his grip tightened on his staff.
"Brain, gotta say, we at Fairy Tail have been after your head for a long time," Karna said as he exited the Incursio armour and summoned his bow. He knew that to complete the mission, he had to do it with his archery skills alone.
Brain's eyebrows raised slightly as he saw Karna remove his armour.
"Are you that overconfident that you remove your armour? As you said before, I'm the person who has escaped from the clutches of your skilled guild members many times. Are you that overconfident?" he asked, and just as Karna was about to reply, he stabbed the staff into the ground, suddenly making patterns appear on it.
"DIE!!" he screamed, but it was in vain as Karna suddenly disappeared from the range of the runic circle that Brain had created on the ground.
"Tut tut tut tut," Karna loudly clicked his tongue. "So typical. Can't you dark guilds have even a bit of originality when you attack? Always the same pattern."
Brain was unable to figure out where the sound was coming from, as Karna had disappeared. Plus, the entire room was not soundproof, so the sound seemed to be coming from all directions.
"Where are you?" Brain asked as he kept turning. Being in the center of a circular room now seemed like an idiotic idea.
"Psyche!!!" a sound came, which startled Brain as he turned around—but that was a distraction, as suddenly a shot from an arrow was fired straight at his back.
"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Brain started screaming in pain as he felt the agony from the arrow increasing at a rapid pace. He was unable to think properly because of the escalating pain. But with the little willpower he had left, he began to think about ways to escape his current predicament. First, he removed the arrow stuck in his back and was surprised to find that not even a drop of blood had flowed out when he did.
"Acid arrow—made for torture rather than killing. The moment of impact injects acids as well as chemicals that create a painful sting and burn, but at the same time closes the wound and sterilizes it, creating a seal using the burned flesh. The maximum a person has been able to tolerate was six arrows. I wonder how many you can handle before you turn into a blubbering mess."
Chills went down Brain's spine as those words registered in his mind. He immediately created a shadow flame that burned the infected part, making him wince—but the pain was over.
"No! I won't let it end this way!" he screamed as multiple magic circles spread throughout the room and started exploding. Karna immediately used grappling hooks he had stored in his bag to jump from one location to another. The explosions destroyed the already placed Flying Raijin symbols he had set throughout the room. Plus, the grappling hooks he was using were getting destroyed by the second, as the explosions created by the magic circles were continuous and showed no signs of stopping.
Guess I was wrong in categorizing Brain as the support-type wizard with his Archive Magic, and Zero as the fighting-type wizard consciousness. The one who has been using the body for decades to elude everyone hunting him was Brain himself. So him using runes as a form of attack is not that surprising. But I think it's time to end it. It seems like time is almost up for everyone. And it seems like he is using the excess energy of Nirvana to fuel his magic circles. Guess I have to destroy it for now.
By then, Brain was taking laboured breaths as his constant explosions were using up a lot of his stamina within seconds. Even if he was getting nearly unlimited magical energy from Nirvana, he had to use himself as a catalyst to supply the explosive circles since he had created them suddenly without preparation. And from what he could see, Karna was easily dodging each explosion while looking straight at him.
Brain knew that he could not stop his explosions to improve the current circle he was using to be automatic. If he did, the gap would be more than enough for Karna to strike him down completely—or use another torturous arrow like before.
But just as he was about to think of another way, Karna shot out an arrow while dodging the explosion.
He must be thinking about using it as a distraction. He'll strike the moment I destroy it and he disappears out of my line of sight, Brain thought as he moved his body to dodge it instead of using magic to create an explosion. He made sure to keep his eye on Karna so as not to be taken off guard.
But it was all for nothing.
Karna immediately disappeared from his sight.
Teleportation! Brain thought, but suddenly he felt the connection he had with the core and the magic circles vanish.
He quickly turned around and found a magic circle on him.
"Dispel," Brain recognized the circle. But it was the last thing he did, as suddenly the world went black.
"Well, that's over I guess," Karna muttered as one of the tattoos vanished from Brain's face. But Karna immediately crushed the staff, as he knew it was the secret seventh member of the Oración Seis.
And as he looked, the countdown he had placed on everyone came to an end, and one by one, the tattoos started disappearing.
Oración Seis - Angel
"URANO METRIA!!!" Lucy screamed as she finished the spell in time and beat down Angel. Hibiki smiled as he watched it happen.
Oración Seis - Racer
BAM!
Gray unceremoniously punched out Racer.
Oración Seis - Hoteye
"Don't worry, my friend. For love, I will do it," Hoteye said as he immediately emptied his magic and knocked himself out.
"Thank you, my friend," Jura said as he gently carried him to safety.
Oración Seis - Midnight
"TOTAL CONCENTRATION BREATHING: FAIRY SLASH!" Erza finished her battle really easily.
Oración Seis - Cobra
As soon as the countdown was over, the secret seal that Karna had put inside Natsu's mind activated, creating a copy of the attack done earlier by Karna.
"Not again," Cobra groaned as he realized what had happened.
The next moment, he became disoriented with the information, and Natsu immediately took that chance to take him down.
Karna watched as the last tattoo vanished.
"It's time to have some fun," he muttered with a smile as he watched Zero surface.
