DEBORAH'S POV
The hospital bed felt like a prison. I stared at the television screen mounted on the wall, watching the morning news with a sick feeling growing in my stomach. The reporter's voice was crisp and professional as she discussed the breaking story about Elijah Sutton and his alleged bigamy.
"Legal experts suggest that if Rossi's first marriage was never legally dissolved, his current marriage could be considered void under bigamy laws, Sources also speculate that these revelations may have contributed to Deborah Sutton's recent suicide attempt. We reached out to representatives for both Mr. Rossi and Ms. Stone for comment, but have not received a response."
My hands trembled as I reached for the remote and turned off the television. The silence in the room was worse than the news report. At least when the reporter was talking, I could pretend this was happening to someone else. Some other woman whose husband had made her look like a fool in front of the entire city.
