A child growing up happily suddenly found out that his height seemed actually unable to reach the average, and out there, there were taller people ready to use their height to bully him. He didn't lose hope, even as despair crept up in his heart, only to suddenly be told that his genes were lacking, and he would never grow to reach the same height as others.
That despair he had been keeping at bay, its dam broke, and drowned his heart.
That was what the hosts of Lucas and his group felt when they heard his verdict.
Hopelessness, that was one of the worst feelings that could be experienced, a feeling both empty and heavy at the same time, so much so that there was no way to resist its pull toward the bottom, no way to do anything other than drowning.
