Chapter 265 - Chapter 261:- On to America

The sun was barely up. A soft golden light peeked through the windows, painting the quiet house in a warm glow.

In the living room, everything was calm.

Kaina sat on the couch with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. Eri was curled up peacefully in her arms, fast asleep, her tiny fingers gently gripping Kaina's shirt. Kaina stroked Eri's hair slowly, her eyes half-closed, watching the little girl breathe.

Near the front door, Maki zipped up the last suitcase with a soft thud.

"All set," she whispered, wiping her hands on her shorts.

Fuyumi nodded, double-checking the luggage tags. "I've packed everything Mom might need—clothes, her favorite tea, even that book she's been reading."

"Nice," Maki said, nodding. "She's gonna be surprised."

Izuku walked in from the kitchen, carrying a small bag filled with medicine and health supplies. He set it down with the rest of the luggage.

"That's everything," he said softly. "Jet is waiting. We just need to bring her."

Fuyumi, already dressed in comfortable clothes, stepped into Rei's room quietly.

Rei was just waking up. She sat up slowly, blinking away sleep.

"Fuyumi?" she asked, rubbing her eyes. "What time is it…?"

Fuyumi smiled gently and walked to her mother's bedside.

"Morning, Mom," she said softly, holding something behind her back.

Rei looked around, confused. "Why are you up so early? And why are you all dressed up? What's going on?"

Instead of answering, Fuyumi sat beside her and slowly pulled out a soft black cloth.

"Mom," she said kindly, "I need you to trust me for a little while, okay?"

Rei stared at the cloth. "What's that?"

Fuyumi smiled, her voice calm. "A blindfold."

Rei's eyes widened a little. "Fuyumi… What is this? What are you doing?"

"I promise, you'll understand soon," Fuyumi said gently. "Just be patient. Please."

Rei frowned softly, her hand hesitating near the blanket. "Is something wrong?"

"No," Fuyumi whispered. "Nothing is wrong. In fact… it might be something very right."

She reached out and brushed a few strands of hair behind Rei's ear.

"I'll be with you the whole time. I promise."

Rei looked into her daughter's eyes for a long second. She saw warmth. She saw love. And something else—hope.

Slowly, with a small sigh, Rei nodded.

"Okay," she said. "I trust you."

Fuyumi smiled softly and tied the blindfold gently around her mother's eyes, making sure it was comfortable and not too tight.

As soon as her vision went dark, Rei felt her other senses sharpen. The soft creak of the mattress under her, the cool brush of air on her cheeks, the faint scent of lavender in the room—all of it felt stronger.

She could hear Fuyumi's breathing, steady and calm, right beside her.

"Just hold onto me," Fuyumi whispered. "I'll guide you."

Rei reached out and held Fuyumi's hand, squeezing it lightly. "You're acting very strange today."

Fuyumi chuckled. "I know. But you'll see… it'll make sense soon."

Together, they stood up from the bed, and Fuyumi led her mother step by step toward the living room, where the others were waiting.

Every heart was calm but filled with a quiet fire.

Rei's steps were small and careful. She could feel the soft texture of the carpet beneath her bare feet. Every sound echoed a little louder in her ears—the soft brushing of clothes, the quiet hum of the fridge in the kitchen, and the gentle whisper of the early morning wind.

Fuyumi gently guided Rei through the hallway.

"Are we outside?" Rei asked as she felt the cool morning air brush against her skin.

"Almost," Fuyumi said softly. "Just a little more."

The sound of a door opening made Rei flinch slightly. The temperature shifted. The air smelled different—fresher, cleaner. There was a soft chirping of birds nearby and a distant hum, maybe of a car engine.

She took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. She couldn't see, but her daughter's grip was steady.

Fuyumi helped her mother down the small steps at the entrance.

Momo and Maki had already loaded the luggage into the black SUV waiting near the gate. Izuku opened the back door quietly.

As Rei stepped onto the driveway, she stopped. Her body tensed slightly as she tilted her head, listening carefully.

"…That's not the usual car," she said. "Where are we going, Fuyumi?"

Fuyumi smiled and touched her mother's shoulder gently. "Somewhere quiet. Somewhere peaceful. Just trust me a little longer, Mom."

Rei frowned a little but nodded. "Alright. I trust you."

Kaina helped Rei into the back seat and made sure she was comfortable before getting in next to Eri, who was still asleep, resting against her chest, while Kaina caressed her head.

Izuku sat in the front passenger seat while Maki drove, and Momo sat beside her.

The drive was calm. No one said much, but there was something warm in the air—like everyone was holding onto something special.

Rei stayed quiet, leaning back in her seat. With no sight to guide her, every small sound stood out—the crunch of gravel under the tires, the way the wind brushed against the car, the soft creak of the leather seats.

After about fifteen minutes of quiet roads and almost no traffic, they reached a high iron gate, guarded and surrounded by a thick tree line. Maki stopped the car as the gates opened slowly.

Rei tilted her head again. "Where are we? This doesn't feel like the city."

"We're almost there," Fuyumi whispered, squeezing her hand gently.

The car moved slowly up a long path until they reached a wide, private airstrip. The morning light hit the silver body of the jet parked ahead. It looked sleek, modern, and ready to fly.

A few silent staff stood nearby, only there to assist Momo if needed. None spoke. None looked directly at Rei.

The engine purred softly as Maki turned it off.

Fuyumi leaned over to her mom and whispered, "Okay. We're here."

Rei could feel the warmth of the sun through the car window. She could sense the space around her opening up.

"…It's quiet," she said softly. "Very quiet."

"Exactly how we wanted it to be," Fuyumi said.

And with a deep breath, Rei prepared herself to take the next step.

Momo stepped out and gave them a single nod. Everything was already prepared.

Fuyumi helped Rei out of the car slowly. Her shoes crunched softly on the gravel.

Rei flinched a little at the sound. The gravel felt different beneath her feet—uneven, small stones shifting slightly under her weight. The air smelled cleaner, crisper, almost sweet.

She could hear the leaves rustling softly somewhere in the distance and the faint humming sound ahead—steady, strong, mechanical. It sent a quiet shiver through her. She didn't know what it was, but it wasn't the city.

"…This isn't just a drive, is it?" Rei asked, turning her head slowly, her ears trying to catch every sound, her skin picking up the coolness of the early breeze.

"No," Fuyumi said quietly. "It's a trip. A special one."

Rei took a shaky breath. Without her sight, everything else felt more alive. Every movement, every sound—it was sharper.

The soft shifting of clothes, the light footsteps near her, even the gentle breaths of the people around her. It all felt… closer.

"Are you all… doing something behind my back?" she asked, her voice quiet and unsure.

Izuku stepped forward. "Not behind your back, Rei-san. Just… something for you."

"You'll understand when we get there," Momo added softly. "Just hold on a little more."

Rei didn't answer at first. Her fingers curled slightly against Fuyumi's hand. She just stood there, blindfolded, hearing everything. The wind brushing against her face.

The hum of something big—maybe a machine, maybe something else. The slow, steady breathing of the people she loved. It was overwhelming but also grounding.

Then she whispered, "…You're all being very strange today."

"But it's because we care, Mom," Fuyumi said gently.

Maki came over and took Rei's other hand. Her grip was warm and firm.

"Come on. Let's get you on board."

They slowly walked her up the small staircase into the jet. Each step felt wide, secure. The handrail was cold, smooth under her fingers.

The air inside was different—warmer, quieter, like a cozy room. The soft hum continued, but it wasn't loud. It felt steady, safe.

The scent changed too. There was a faint smell of polished wood, soft fabric, and something sweet—like vanilla or honey.

The jet was beautiful.

It wasn't loud or flashy. It was smooth, silver, and quiet—almost peaceful. The inside felt more like a cozy lounge than a plane.

Cream-colored leather seats were arranged in a wide U-shape around a soft carpeted floor, allowing everyone to face each other comfortably.

There was space to walk in the middle, and warm yellow lights glowed from the ceiling. The scent of fresh leather mixed with hints of vanilla, and the gentle hum of the systems made everything feel calm.

A blanket and a soft pillow had already been placed on one of the corner seats near the window—the most comfortable spot.

Rei stepped inside slowly, guided by Fuyumi and Maki, with Izuku close behind her. Her shoes sank slightly into the plush carpet as she walked, and each step sounded muted and gentle.

Fuyumi led her toward the seat by the window, and with Maki's help, helped her sit down slowly.

"You can take the blindfold off now," Fuyumi whispered.

Rei's hands moved up cautiously. She untied the cloth and let the light filter in. She blinked several times as her eyes adjusted.

"…This is a jet," she murmured, her voice uncertain as she looked around at the soft lights, the elegant setup, and the others settling into their own seats.

Momo nodded from across the aisle. "Yes. My family's jet."

Rei looked at all of them—Momo, Maki, Fuyumi, and Izuku.

"You all… planned this?"

They nodded, quiet but sure.

"…Why?" she asked, still trying to process everything.

Izuku didn't say anything at first. He simply walked over and sat beside her—on the same U-shaped couch, right next to her, close enough that their arms touched. He didn't face her. He just sat quietly and looked forward, like they were watching the same sky.

"We just wanted to do something for you," he said softly. "Something that feels like peace."

Rei looked at him for a long moment. Her hands rested lightly in her lap, unsure, shaking just a little. And then… her body leaned sideways, her head coming to rest on Izuku's shoulder, her eyes fluttering shut.

"…You're all crazy," she whispered.

"Yeah," Fuyumi said with a gentle smile, sitting opposite them. "But we're your kind of crazy."

Rei didn't lift her head. She stayed close to Izuku, like she was afraid the moment would disappear if she moved too fast.

"…Thank you," she said, barely above a whisper. "I don't know what I did to deserve this. But thank you."

Izuku smiled down at her and let his head rest lightly against hers.

"Don't thank us just yet," he murmured. "The destination's still a secret. And once we're in the air… we're putting that blindfold back on."

Rei lifted her head just enough to look up at him. "You're joking."

"Nope," Izuku said, grinning. "Totally serious. We're not ruining the surprise."

Rei groaned quietly, then let out a soft laugh. "You're unbelievable…"

Momo giggled from across the seating area. "We promise it'll be worth it."

Rei leaned back against Izuku again—heavier this time, her arms around Izuku's hand, resting her head on Izuku's like she was willing to surrender herself to Izuku, showing how much she trusted him to hold her like that.

She closed her eyes, the tension in her shoulders slowly melting.

"You're all ridiculous," she muttered again, this time with the hint of a smile. "But fine. I guess I'll allow it."

No one spoke after that.

They didn't need to.

The engines began to hum gently under them, and the jet slowly rolled forward down the runway. Outside, the sky glowed gold and pink with soft morning light. The clouds looked like whispers of cotton.

Rei remained still, head resting on Izuku's shoulder, Fuyumi sitting across from her with her hand gently covering Rei's own.

She didn't know where they were taking her.

But for the first time in a long, long while… She felt safe. And that was enough.
