Chapter 160: Hyuga

The only clan that didn't oppose the Senju Clan taking this position was the Hyuga Clan, as they didn't have a true leader to guide them.
The former patriarch had been forcefully removed from his position, and no one wanted to follow his orders anymore.
His life as a king within the clan had been reduced to that of a civilian. There was no one to brew tea for him, work for him, or earn money for him anymore.
The worst part was his son. Due to his past wrongdoings, not a single person wanted to marry him. He had become an unwanted bachelor within the clan.
Setsuna had placed a seal on them to prevent suicide or harming others. They had tried to drink poison, but the seal activated, causing them unbearable pain, forcing them to stop.
What remained for them was to work hard like civilians, doing jobs like being janitors—work they could never have imagined doing before. Because of the seal, they couldn't function as ninjas. For instance, if they tried to take on missions like protecting merchants, the seal would activate, inflicting so much pain that they would be unable to move.
They could only perform D-rank missions, like catching lost cats or cleaning toilets.
Before Setsuna and Haruko left Konoha, they had advised and even overseen the operation of selecting a new clan leader.
At first, the Hyuga wanted to live freely, but Setsuna revealed to them that by marrying outside the clan, they would lose the Byakugan because the other shinobi were actually from different races. The Hyuga are descendants of the Otsutsuki, while the others are normal humans with chakra networks.
The Otsutsuki can be compared to lions, and normal shinobi to tigers. Even though they can reproduce, there will be effects on their descendants.
Some Hyuga, unwilling to let their children lose the Dojutsu, chose to marry within the clan. However, three or four individuals who had fallen in love with civilians decided to marry outside the clan.
As a result, their children did not inherit the Byakugan and were born with black eyes, like other people, instead of the white eyes.
Seeing these results, the Hyuga clan became more united and chose to marry within the clan, as the Byakugan was too valuable. Many shinobi were willing to cause bloodshed to obtain it.

"Mito-sama, it looks like the Chinoike clan has gone extinct and all the people living there have died out," said Uchiha Katori.
"Hmmm, what about Uchiha Setsuna and his wife?" asked Mito.
"They were informed, but they only sent their condolences," replied Uchiha Katori.
"Won't they come here?" asked Mito.
"No, they have been banned from entering Konoha for 10 years due to their actions against the Hyuga Clan," Katori explained.
Upon hearing this, Mito recalled the incident that had shocked all of Konoha. Hyuga Haruko had used her power to defeat Hyuga Hiro, forcing Hashirama to ban Uchiha Setsuna and his wife from Konoha in order to appease the other clans.
"It's been 7 years since that incident. Did Setsuna's student attend the funeral?" asked Mito. "If I remember correctly, she wasn't among those banned from entering Konoha."
"Uchiha Kagami and Chino Chinoike came to Konoha to attend the funeral," Katori responded.
"I heard they had a child, and the child awakened a new dojutsu," Mito smiled.
"Yes, Mito-sama. The new eyes have been named Chiryugan, but their abilities remain unknown. They haven't told us anything about the dojutsu," replied Haruko.
"It's fascinating to see the combination of both dojutsu," Mito smiled again. "I heard from Setsuna that they used an elixir to merge both bloodlines."
"An elixir?" asked Katori.
"Yes. Normally, when an Uchiha and a Hyuga marry, their child might inherit both eyes—one being the Sharingan and the other the Byakugan," explained Mito.
"Mito-sama, did Setsuna share the elixir with you?" Katori asked.
"Katori, please call me sensei. You are my disciple," Mito said gently, having already advised Katori to call her sensei instead of using formal titles.
"No, Mito-sama. Your status as the wife of Konoha's founder is too important for me to address you as sensei," replied Katori respectfully.
"Haaa," Mito sighed. "It seems you won't listen to me, just like before. To answer your question, he didn't share the elixir with me."
"Wouldn't it benefit the Uchiha Clan and Konoha as a whole if he shared it?" asked Katori.
"Yes, but he said the elixir came from someone else, and there are only four. He couldn't replicate it," Mito answered.
"What do you think of Setsuna?" Mito asked suddenly.
"I've heard good things. Many people have become his disciples, and those who went to school with him still respect him," Katori said.
"I want to know your personal thoughts, Katori," Mito insisted.
"I'm not sure, Mito-sama. On one hand, I respect him, but on the other, I feel some anger because he left Konoha," Katori replied honestly.
---Uchiha Kagami POV---
He looked at his wife, Chino Chinoike, who appeared very sad after the funeral.
"Are you okay?" Kagami asked.
"I'm feeling a bit sad," Chino replied, then whispered to her husband, "Luckily, sensei moved most of the clan to Uzushiogakure."
"Yes," Kagami smiled, still remembering how their sensei had worked hard to cure the poison inside the chinoike clan member.
Even though their bodies grew stronger, there was still some residue left that had weakened the Chinoike Clan.
This operation was kept secret, only the Uzukage and high-ranking officials in Uzushiogakure knew about it.
Suddenly, Sarutobi Hiruzen, the Third Hokage, approached them.
"We are sorry to hear that the last of the Chinoike have passed," Sarutobi Hiruzen said.
"It's okay, at least they lived in peace here," Chino replied.
They remained silent for a moment before Hiruzen spoke again.
"How about you and your husband stay in Konoha?" Hiruzen offered. "It would be better to continue the Chinoike Clan here, or else the clan will die out."
Chino and Kagami exchanged glances, and Kagami nodded, signaling his support for his wife's decision.
"The Chinoike Clan has ended in Konoha. My child will inherit the Uchiha surname, and we're happy living in Uzushiogakure," Chino Chinoike said.
Her response was direct, and Sarutobi Hiruzen felt a pang of regret, especially after hearing reports that a new dojutsu had awakened. But he couldn't force them—they were only guests attending the funeral.
