Li Fengnian looked back and saw He Lingling quietly running to the side, where the tide was visibly higher than here. But crossing that patch of water would lead her to the woods.
He Lingling was seemingly trying to wade through the water and run into the forest.
With a roar of rage, Li Fengnian bellowed, "He Lingling, stop right there!"
He Lingling glanced back at Li Fengnian; her already panicked heart now seemed ready to leap out of her chest, and her feet carried her even faster.
Li Fengnian did not pursue but instead drew the gun he carried and fired a shot into the air towards He Lingling's direction.
The loud "bang" halted He Lingling's fleeing steps. Terrified, she feared that Li Fengnian's gunshot had been meant for her. With a loud cry, she clasped her head and crouched down.
Gun in hand, Li Fengnian strode over, pointing it at He Lingling's head: "Run, why aren't you running now!"
