Amelia Clarke sensed Jocelyn Griffin's gaze, turned to look back, and saw Jocelyn's dim and lusterless face and eyes. She gave Jocelyn a smile, which didn't reach her eyes and stopped at mere politeness.
Even so, that smile still shone like the sun, dazzling Jocelyn's eyes.
Jocelyn stared at the paired couple, lost in a daze.
"Jocelyn, don't be sad, it's a good thing that The Fletchers called off the engagement. I had my doubts about their intentions when you first got engaged, but your mom insisted on finalizing it. Now, she can't control you anymore. You're only twenty-seven, there's plenty of life ahead of you, and you will surely meet someone who truly cares for you."
Emily Collins affectionately stroked Jocelyn's hair.
Jocelyn snapped back to reality, glanced at Emily Collins, and with a hoarse and choked voice said, "Grandma, I'm tired, I want to sleep for a while."
