Chapter 92 - Chapter 91: Shaking Earth

The night was blissful but it was short too.

I opened my eyes, slowly and then I just laid still for a moment.

'Another busy day huh'

Last night had been relaxing and fun. Who would have thought having dinner with friends would be something I would ever consider fun. I smiled

'Who am I kidding dinner time was the most I spent with mom and then I would give her a massage for her stiff shoulder while playing a movie too'

I felt a slight ache in my heart. I missed those days and I missed mom. There wasn't any time to rest, I'd rest when my mother was right beside me, safe and sound.

I sat up and then got out of bed. I made my way to the window and looked through the curtains. The light of the sun couldn't fully illuminate the world as it was blocked by a curtain of dark clouds. It must have been an hour since morning came.

I could already hear activity coming from downstairs. The others were awake too. I stepped out and made my way down.

"Morning everyone" I yawned when I entered the living room. And headed towards the kitchen.

Lydia, Clara and aunt Grace were moving about in the kitchen getting ready for breakfast. I took a cup and then went to the sink to fill it up with water before taking a long gulp. I felt my dry throat clear and sighed contentedly. I looked at the ladies for a moment and without thinking I said:

"What magical potions are you fairies cooking up this morning"

"Just some breakfast dear wait in the living room with everyone else" aunt Grace said before she shooed me away.

Defeated, I had no choice but to listen. I could hear the two girls giggle behind me. I sat down in the nearest seat.

"What are you smiling about?" Jordan asked me from the other seat.

Was I smiling?

I touched my face with my left hand and traced my fingers against it.

'I really am'

I hadn't even noticed but there was nothing wrong with that. This showed just how good of mood last night's dinner had placed me in.

I looked around the living room. My smile widened. I wasn't the only one who was smiling, everyone else also had a relaxed expression and even though everyone knew that in a few hours after this a busy day of hunting awaited us they decided to use this chance to the fullest.

Lydia, Clara and aunt Grace later came in with breakfast. There were eleven plates to distribute so they had to make a couple of trips between the kitchen and the living room. Soon everyone was enjoying and chewing on delicious hot cakes.

'So this was the mystery of the third container' I pleasantly thought

There were about three hot cakes each and I had already devoured my first. The thought of going one hot cake down was saddening as it was pleasing. I had contradictory feelings. One side of me wanted to eat the hot cakes as soon as possible…and another part of me wanted to avoid finishing them for as long as possible.

'Mmh, just what did aunt Grace put in these to make them so good'

Today had to easily be one of the best days I've had since the apocalypse and nothing absolutely nothing could ruin it for me.

'I just raised a death flag didn't I?'

Regrettably, I finished my hot cakes faster than I would have liked and it seemed that Lydia had also finished hers. She stood up and walked over to me to retrieve my plate but as she was walking over I felt the ground shake beneath my feet.

At first it was subtle but then it grew in intensity. So much so that every single thing in house was shaking. The bulbs, furniture, I even heard the sound of something breaking-probably a plate or cups toppling over, in the kitchen reaching my ears.

Lydia who had been standing at that time was caught off guard, she found herself losing balance. She swayed and then fell forward. But she didn't fall to the floor, instead…

I felt the soft weight of her ass as she land solidly on my lap. I don't know how it happened but her chest ended up pressed against mine transferring her body heat to mine. I felt my heart rate rise as the organ beat so intensely it threatened to jump out of my rib cage.

She felt so small and vulnerable, an urge to protect her bloomed from my heart. I found myself wrapping my arms around her and holding her closely.

Protection wasn't the only urge I was having too…Feeling her pressed so close to me and feeling the heat from her body awakened my hormones to a superhuman level. That coupled with her sweet and intoxicating fragrance just added more fuel to the fire.

Just as I thought things could get any worse.

The shaking grew more intense causing every single thing to shake more intensely. It felt as though the sleeping earth was waking up from a long slumber, but that wasn't the bad part. I could handle the earth shaking a lot better. What I could handle though was the feeling of Lydia's ass grinding against me.

'…no…no…no…no…no…please not now down boy…down'

However it was useless. The organ in my pants had a mind of its own. It stood straight, pointing straight to the ceiling or rather…Lydia's ass. She must have felt me poking because a second later she yelped in surprise and looked at me with a bewildered expression.

I could only smile bitterly and shyly

'She…probably thinks I'm a pervert…right?'

The earth shook more violently and as a direct consequence…so did the grinding.

I had to hold in a groan as the pleasure that jolted through me felt extremely electric.

Lydia's breathing changed. It grew slower and heavier and her expression was somewhat lost. Her eyes were shut but the rosy color of her cheeks made a heat rise from my lower stomach. I wanted to see more, to feel her more.

'D-Diabolical…this…this is just too much'

"H-Huey" I heard her voice whisper brush against my ears. Hot and soft.

"Y-yeah?"

She released a hot breath before asking:

"Are…you okay?"

"M-me? Why…wouldn't I be okay?"

Lydia sighed for a moment and then she rested her head on my shoulder. I could feel her breath tickle the surface of my neck and a pleasant shiver ran down my spine.

'D-damn…what is she a succubus?'

Time slowed to a crawl and I could do nothing but battle my own inhibitions that kept screaming at me to take advantage of the situation…something that I was sure to regret sooner rather than later.

True I liked Lydia, I'd known that since the moment I met her. It had started off as a simple crush as first but as more time passed between us I felt my feelings grow into something else.

'Is this what they call…love?'

The shaking had stopped.

"W-what was that?" Nale's voice broke through the tension that had been heavy in the room. Jordan was helping his mother stand on her feet. I looked towards the others.

They were regaining their long lost balance.

'Nobody saw us'

I secretly released a sigh of relief and my heart calmed down a little.

"Um…H-Huey you can let go now" Lydia's voice drew my attention back to her. She was still sitting in my lap and somehow I had my arm wrapped around her waist.

When did that even happen?

For a moment our eyes met and her cheeks went crimson as a blush covered half her face.

"Oh…yeah r-right of course" I said.

Lydia stood uneasily for a moment but she caught herself and then she proceeded to carry my plate over to the kitchen. She didn't even look back at me.

'She…she's not mad is she?'

I shook my head off of those thoughts. Now wasn't the time to be thinking about this. There was a much larger issue at hand.

'What was that earth quake?'

Before I could ponder any further the Spirit Record flushed in my retina. I felt my heart sink when I read through the green letters it projected.

[Earth's evolution has begun. Your world is becoming a Second Stage World

 Evolution progress: 1%]

"Diabolical"

Lydia's mind was a mess and she rushed towards the kitchen her thoughts wondered miles away from the current situation with the earth quake.

'What did I just do?'

Images flashed through her mind. She fell onto his lap and somehow got he's…he's thing excited and then she felt him poking at her nether regions. Worse still, she unconsciously rubbed up against him to experience a small amount of guilty pleasure.

She blushed so furiously that her entire face was painted and even her ears. Oh how she wished she could crawl into a ditch somewhere and die…but then another thought came to her mind

'Does this mean he likes me?'

Again, a furious blush painted her entire face red and if some one was to see her in this state, they would have thought she was having a severe fever.

The Woodlands Forest made up of a dense foliage of trees and plant life had been a growing concern to Camp White, after all there were numerous dangerous mutated beasts that resided there now and although the place served as a convenient hunting ground the news brought by Huey about the impending threat that roamed deep within its woods made it even more dire.

Currently a small team had been sent to monitor the forest and notify the mayor if there was any activity.

The team was made up of five people. And each person here had a higher agility than most of the evolvers from the camp. It was part of the reason they were given this mission to begin with.

What they never would have expected was for a large earth quake to knock them off their feet. They were rendered disoriented for a few moments before the earth stopped shaking.

"Shit" one of the men cursed as he stood to his feet. "What the bloody hell was th-"

Before he could finish speaking…

A shadow shot forward from the forest. He barely saw it from the corner of his periphery vision before he felt a pair of debilitating claws tear through the skin on his back. And then he felt sharp canines sink into his neck with the crashing force of a dreadful bite.

The force of the bite was powerful, it was unrelenting. Razor sharp teeth tore throw skin and flesh.

He had been facing the cohort when this happened but now his vision darkened around the edges. The world shifted as he fell towards the ground, and with every second that passed he felt his body growing weaker and weaker.

'I'm going to die'

He knew…he just knew. His life was fading away, like the last remnants of a burning candle. The last thing his saw was his comrades having their mouths open as their yells of urgency and alarm slowly faded.

Just like his vision. Then everything went dark.

Shock took over the group and then rage.

One of the men rushed at the creature on his comrade's back. It to be a brown furred canine creature. A fox…or maybe a wolf, he couldn't tell but it didn't matter.

He had a broad axe in his right hand, one with a long polearm and a sharp edge at the head of the axe. He raised it above his head, the muscles in his arms rolling and contracting with force…and then he brought it down with all his might aiming for the back of the creature.

His struck true, hitting his mark with a resounding force that snapped the creatures spine and tore through its internal organs in one fell swoop. The creature yelped before it went still and limp. It died in one hit.

The man yanked his axe from the corpse and proceeded to kick off his friend's dead body, not bothering with the message from the Spirit record, he checked on his teammate. With a heavy heart he knelt beside him and even though he knew it was vain he pressed two fingers against the side of his neck.

"He's dead" he said with a heavy heart. "Let's take his back to camp"

He stood up and just then looked into the forest and immediately his felt his blood run cold.

Even though the lighting in the forest wasn't nearly as good, he was able to see quite a distance. Deep within the forest shadows of creatures were moving, running in a frenzy. And what was worse was that they were running in their direction.

"We need to go now!" he shouted

The rest of the cohort felt the urgency in his voice. The moved without question too after all his was the captain of this group.

One of the other group members went to pick up their dead comrade's body but the captain stopped him.

"There's no time" he said. Instead he ripped a tag off the dead man's shoulder. They wouldn't be able to give him a proper burial but they would at least give him his proper respects when they were safe behind the camp's walls.

The captain then turned and ran with all the strength and speed he could master. The other four members followed closely behind as they left the forest behind them.

At first they didn't understand why their captain had told them to run so urgently that they actually had to leave behind their comrade's body like that and just when they were about to ask, a series of growls and stomps reached their ears from behind.

They looked back only for their faces to get pale.

Behind them what they could only describe as a stampede of mutated creatures of various kind were spilling from the forest and were running right behind them.

The captain also looked back and his face hardened even more. Before he had only been seeing vague shadows but now he realized just how dire the situation was especially given that the creatures were following after them in their direction.

'Shit this is worse than I thought' the captain thought as he took out a radio and brough it to his mouth.

Before he used it though he made it a point tell the team.

"Don't bother fighting and put everything on running back to the camp as soon as possible!" he said then focused on the radio. "Mayday! Mayday! There is a stampede of mutated creatures heading towards the camp! Numbering over 30 approximately and will be reach base in less than thirty minutes!"

There was a short pause from the radio.

"What of your team captain? What's your status?"

"One of my members died. As for the rest of us we're heading back as fast as we can but I don't know if we'll make it" he said.

"Shit I hear you but there's nothing we can do to help you right now so keep running towards camp and stay alive you got that?"

"We'll do our best" the captain said then cu the transmission. "You heard that boys. Run like the wind!"
