Naruto SI: Kaito Red Lightnin Chapter 171
Author's Note:
Sorry for the late upload! I had to rewrite the chapter, and honestly, I'm still not fully satisfied with it. It feels a bit too sudden or out of nowhere, but I hope you'll still enjoy it.
The lightning infused the water, creating a massive wave of electrified water that rushed across the training ground toward Kaito with terrifying speed.
Watching the incoming wave, Kaito didn't even flinch.
"Reckless idiot," Kaito's shadow clone muttered as it appeared in front of Kushina and the others. Chakra chains shot out from its back, forming a glowing barrier that surrounded them, protecting them from the incoming surge.
The electrified wave slammed into the barrier, but Kaito's chains held firm, keeping everyone safe.
Meanwhile, the real Kaito didn't even move from his spot. Instead, he calmly stomped his foot on the ground.
Boom!
A massive earth wall shot up, towering between him and the electrified wave. The wave collided with the wall, sending sparks flying, but the earth held strong, blocking the attack completely.
When the water finally subsided, Boruto landed back on the ground, panting slightly from exertion. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the large earth wall in front of him. "Damn it…" he muttered under his breath, frustration clear in his tone. "He blocked it…"
The earth wall slowly lowered, revealing Kaito standing there, completely unfazed. His hands were still in his pockets, and he looked as bored as ever.
"Are you done?" Kaito asked flatly, his expression as indifferent as ever.
…
"Is that all you've got, Boruto? If it is, that's just pathetic," Kaito said, narrowing his eyes as he stepped forward. "Now it's my turn."
Boruto clenched his teeth, eyes locking with Kaito's. "You bastard…" he muttered, frustration bubbling up in his chest.
Kaito took another step. Then another. And then he sprinted straight at him.
Boruto tensed up, heart pounding in his ears. Crap—he's fast! He swallowed hard and quickly pulled out a kunai, forming two shadow clones with a flash.
But Kaito was already there—right in his face.
He threw a punch aimed straight at Boruto's jaw, shouting, "You rush into fights like an idiot—that's why you've got that stupid mark on your hand! What'll you do when it turns you into an Ōtsutsuki, huh? When you end up killing your own mom, your little sister—everyone you care about, ya know?!"
Boruto just barely moved his face in time, the punch grazing his cheek.
One of the clones from the left slashed its kunai at Kaito.
Kaito ducked low, voice sharp. "Bet you'd even cheat in the Chūnin Exams if it gave you an edge, right?" His hand smacked the clone's wrist, knocking the kunai loose., he then grabbed it mid-air with his free hand
Kaito spun, dodging the other clone's kunai, then slashed through it—Poof! The clone vanished. Kaito twisted mid-air, his foot whipping into the last clone and dispelling it with another poof.
"W-What… What did you say?" Boruto gasped, just before Kaito's foot slammed into Boruto's face.
Boruto flew back, crashing hard onto the ground.
Boruto rolled back, coughing, eyes blurry. Damn… he's strong. He pulled out two shuriken and threw them as he stumbled to a stop.
"I saw it in your face," Kaito said coldly. "My words got to you, huh? So you really did cheat. Dragged your dad's and grandpa's names through the dirt. Pathetic."
He threw the kunai he'd grabbed earlier—and it multiplied into hundreds, the blades shining in the air.
Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu?! Boruto's eyes went wide. The storm of kunai tore through his shuriken like paper.
He jumped into the air, just barely dodging the storm of blades.
But Kaito was already there.
Boruto reacted fast, throwing a punch, but Kaito caught it without flinching.
"You're too slow," Kaito muttered, yanking Boruto in and slamming his fist into his face.
Boruto's head snapped back from the hit, his body spinning from the force.
"You only made it this far on dumb luck, ya know," Kaito said, fists still moving as he kept up the pressure. "Here's the truth—you're worthless. One step away from being the reason your whole family dies."
Suddenly, two Boruto clones appeared behind Kaito and lunged.
One grabbed for Kaito's waist—but his hands passed right through a flickering afterimage.
Both clones froze, eyes wide.
"W-What…?" one of them started to say—before Kaito reappeared right between them and slashed through both with a kunai.
Poof! Poof! Both clones vanished in a puff of smoke.
The real Boruto, still falling from the punch earlier, crossed his fingers mid-air. Another clone popped up beside him.
The clone grabbed Boruto's arm, spun him around with all its strength, and threw him straight at Kaito.
Boruto shot forward like a missile, rage in his eyes.
"Stop talking like you know me!" he shouted, thrusting out a palm strike toward Kaito's back.
But it passed clean through—Kaito's body fading away in another flicker.
"Too slow again," Kaito's voice came from his right.
Boruto turned—too late—and caught a brutal kick to the ribs.
Kaito's foot slammed into him, sending him crashing to the ground.
Thud! Boruto hit the dirt hard, gasping. But there was no time to think—Kaito was already above him, a Rasengan in his hand.
"You could've avoided the whole Ōtsutsuki mess if you actually thought before jumping in," Kaito said coldly. "But no—you'd rather play the hero than face reality, ya know."
He slammed the Rasengan down.
BOOM!
The ground shattered under Boruto, the impact sending up a massive cloud of dust
…
Kaito's shadow clone stood with his arms crossed under the chakra chain barrier, standing in front of Kushina and the kids.
Without turning around, the clone spoke. "Don't even think about interfering, Sasuke."
High up in the trees behind them, Sasuke stood tense. His hand twitched slightly, as if ready to step in and stop the one-sided beatdown happening in front of them.
Hearing the clone's warning, Sasuke thought, 'He sensed me…?' He narrowed his eyes, realizing Kaito knew he was there.
Down below, Kushina stood with her hands clasped tightly against her chest, watching the fight with worry clouding her face.
"I know you're not gonna kill him, kai-kun," she said softly, biting her lip. "But still… aren't you going a bit too far? I think he's learned his lesson already, ya know…"
Her eyes flinched as she watched Kaito slam a Rasengan into Boruto, sending dust and dirt flying.
Kaito's clone shook his head. "The boss is doing it because he wants Boruto to understand just how weak he really is. He needs to learn that running headfirst into fights he can't win will only get him killed."
He paused for a second, then added, "He's also pushing Boruto to his limit—hoping it forces him to use his full strength."
Sasuke's eyes narrowed, his voice calm but curious. "What do you mean? That is his full strength!"
Kaito shook his head slowly. "No… I can feel it. He's holding something back. Maybe not on purpose—maybe it's subconscious. But it's there."
He looked back toward the fight. "I've got a feeling it's a dōjutsu. There's some chakra gathering at his right eye… I can sense it clearly."
And Kaito wasn't lying. He could sense chakra lingering near Boruto's right eye. It made him remember—Boruto possessed a dōjutsu. If he recalled correctly, it was called the Jōgan.
Sasuke's eyes sharpened, now fully locked on the battle.
Kushina turned her head toward Kaito, blinking. "You think Boruto-chan inherited the Byakugan?"
Kaito shook his head. "No… it doesn't feel like the Byakugan at all. It's different—way different."
…
The dust cleared, and Kaito stood at the center of the crater created by the Rasengan. But in front of him wasn't Boruto—it was a shattered wooden log.
Boruto had used a substitution jutsu at the last second, which Kaito had noticed.
Just then, the ground beneath Kaito cracked open, and Boruto sprang up with a Rasengan spinning in his palm, aimed right at Kaito's chin.
Kaito leaned back, letting the Rasengan pass just inches from his face. As Boruto passed by him mid-air, their eyes met—Kaito noticed Boruto's right eye glowing a light blue.
"So," Kaito said, his tone calm, "you finally stopped holding back, huh?"
Boruto glared, his Jōgan fully activated.
He let the Rasengan vanish, spun in the air, and aimed a powerful kick at Kaito, much faster than before.
Kaito ducked under the kick and countered with a punch.
This time, Boruto reacted fast enough to block it with his palm.
He's faster than before… way faster, Kaito thought, surprised.
Boruto pushed back and launched a palm strike at Kaito.
Kaito dodged it, and the two began exchanging blows—punches and kicks flying in a blur, each strike faster than the last.
But it was clear Boruto was struggling to keep up. Kaito's speed and power were still a level above.
'If I had to scale him,' Kaito thought, as he blocked a punch and swept Boruto off his feet, 'he's Chūnin-level in base… but with the Jōgan, he's pushing high Chūnin, maybe low Jōnin.'
Two shadow clones popped into existence on either side of Boruto, surrounding Kaito.
They leapt in together, attacking from all sides.
But Kaito moved effortlessly weaving through their strikes, dodging punches and kicks like it was second nature.
Boruto and his clones suddenly jumped back, weaving through a series of hand signs.
Boruto puffed out his chest and called, "Fūton: Toppa!" blowing out a powerful gust of wind.
One of his clones finished its hand signs and shouted, "Suiton: Hatō!" unleashing a crashing wave of water.
The last clone thrust its palm forward, shouting, "Raiton: Jinraikanha!" as lightning surged from its hand toward Kaito.
Kaito stood in the middle, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips as water from the surrounding air began to swirl around him.
Within seconds, it gathered into a large, spiraling water wall that rose up around him just as the three jutsu—wind, water, and lightning—collided with it.
A deafening explosion shook the ground, and a massive cloud of dust kicked up, covering the training field in smoke and debris.
Boruto raised his arms, shielding his face from the blast as the force of the collision swept over him.
As the dust slowly settled, Kaito stood at the center of the wreckage, completely unharmed—calm, composed, not even a scratch on him.
Boruto cursed under his breath, gritting his teeth. "Damn it…"
Kaito looked at him and said flatly, "That was much better than last time… but still not enough." His expression hardened. "But let's end it here."
Before Boruto could react, Kaito appeared right in front of him and threw a punch aimed straight at his face.
Boruto gritted his teeth and managed to block it, but Kaito wasn't done. He grabbed Boruto's wrist, yanked him forward, and drove a knee into his stomach. The impact knocked the wind out of him. In one swift motion, Kaito swept Boruto's legs out from under him and pinned him to the ground, his right arm locked and Kaito's knee pressing down on his back, applying pressure.
Off to the side, two of Kaito's shadow clones had already taken care of Boruto's clones, dispelling them with ease.
Looking down at the pinned Boruto, Kaito spoke calmly but firmly.
"You know… You talk a lot, but you can't back it up. You're too weak. If you keep going like this, you'll end up losing everything you hold dear."
Boruto looked up at him from the corner of his eye, his expression tight. He looked like he was on the verge of tears.
Kaito sighed, then released his grip and stood up. Running a hand through his hair, he spoke again—softer this time.
"Look, Boruto… I know what I'm saying is harsh—maybe even cruel—but it's the truth. Right now, you're a danger to your family and the people you care about."
Boruto sat up slowly, rubbing his sore wrist, head lowered.
"I haven't known you long," Kaito continued, "but I can already tell—you're reckless. You jump into danger without thinking. You got that from your dad, no doubt. "
"But I've got this feeling… something's coming. Your life's about to get harder, and you're not ready for it." He paused for a moment, his gaze serious. "My gut's always been right. Maybe it's because you were born during peaceful times… but the strength you have now? It's not gonna be enough."
Boruto didn't argue. Deep down, he knew Kaito was right.
Kaito crouched beside him. "I'm only saying all this because I see something in you. You've got the potential to be one of the strongest shinobi in history—but only if you're willing to put in the work."
He held out a hand.
Boruto looked at it, hesitating… then reached out and took it.
Kaito pulled him up and smiled slightly. "And I'm gonna help you train while you're still here in the past."
Boruto looked up at him, surprised.
Kaito grinned. "I wouldn't be a good uncle if I sent you back as weak as you are, ya know?" He paused, then added, "But fair warning—the training's gonna be intense."
