Chapter 24 - Change (1)

Kevin didn't know what was happening with him, but from the moment he woke up inside the white room with several needles attached inside his body, he knew one thing: that his doubt was f#cking right.

"T-they are really e-experimenting on humans." Kevin was struggling to even think straight.

Kevin was experiencing an intense burning sensation in his muscles, akin to plunging into a fiery abyss. His bones feel as though they are fracturing gradually, only to mend and grow back even more resilient.

For a fleeting moment, he is engulfed in a blissful numbness, a welcome escape from the agony, but it is short-lived. Almost immediately, his senses return with heightened acuity, amplifying his suffering.

This relentless cycle prevents him from acclimating to the pain. He realizes that the turmoil within his body extends beyond his muscles and bones, deeply affecting his nervous system as well.

He can feel that after every cycle of losing his senses and then regaining them, his physical strength is increasing steadily, but still it is not enough to break these restrictions that have kept him bound to this medical bed.

Kevin doesn't know how much time has passed since he was suffering from this torture; he did not even care about the awful smell coming from his body.

The only thing he cares about is getting out of this situation and reaching somewhere safe. Everything related to revenge and bashing the skull of those who are responsible for this came after it.

In an instant, a transformation takes place, as if a barrier within him has broken apart, revealing something he was previously unaware of.

The relentless agony that once plagued him has not lessened—rather, it persists, but his body has adapted, rendering this intensity of pain manageable.

The world around him appears altered, as if someone has swapped his old, foggy glasses for a pair of crystal-clear lenses, allowing him to see everything with newfound clarity.

His visions are not the only thing that changed; instead, he can feel that all his senses have sharply risen beyond what an ordinary human is capable of, and then, he felt it—no, it's more like an intuition that several beings are watching him.

He doesn't know how, but he just felt it.

He did not think about the reason behind this phenomenon that resulted in his sudden increase of physical attributes and senses, because these questions have no value to his current situation, while those questions that are truly important right now are out of his reach because of his powerlessness.

This situation frustrated him.

His head snapped in the direction of this person with the greatest presence. He cannot see it, but he knows that his action must have been noticed by this person. so what?

He has already suffered so much; getting robbed, then suffering a defeat at the hands of a coward who does not even show his face till the end, getting kidnapped for unknown reasons, being treated like an experimental subject, and now this continuous torture, which must have been a part of plan under this organization.

Even a calm-minded person like him has a breaking point, and right now he has had enough.

A flame of vengeance burned in Kevin's eyes. He swore to give hell to every single person involved in his suffering with his own hand.

He will show them what happens when a professional doctor decides to make someone suffer instead of alleviating their pain.

He tried to break his restrictions, but they refused to budge.

He felt it, that if only he were more powerful, just a little more than what he had right now, he would have torn down this restriction.

Isla looked at Kevin with a wide smile, her presence having become much heavier than normal, making it hard for normal researchers to breathe, her eyes shining with stars twinkling in them, her arms trembling like she was having the time of her life.

Her smile has unconsciously become so wide that everyone around her cannot help but take a step away from her because they know, despite her stunning figure and charming face, when it comes to a test subject, Isla can be described in just one word : psychopath.

Isla looked at the timer on the screen in front of her, whose numbers kept changing, indicating the fact that even the system was facing problems in analyzing a fixed time in which Kevin would complete his evolution and become stable.

"Looks like this last trial will give me a little entertainment at least," Isla thought.

"Prepare for the transplantation process," Isla said with a wide smile, ignoring the tense researchers around her.

No one dared to stop her or even point out that Kevin had yet to complete his evolution or even reach stability before the next step of the experiment.

"Show me something even more interesting.Kevin Ashcroft, entertain me more." Isla's passion for interesting things has made her what she is today, and right now that passion has fixated on Kevin, making her curious to test his limits, to see him either fall or rise during his suffering.

She no longer cares about progress in her project through this trial; what she cares about is how much longer Kevin will last now that he have easily crossed the barrier that seperate a second level evolved human from attaining third level of evolution, before becoming a senseless beast like all other subjects.

The researcher who is responsible for controlling the robot gave a slight nod toward others before announcing.

"We are ready for the transplantation process."

Isla stopped just before giving her permission to continue but decided to take caution just in case.

"EVOLVI, activate 3rd stage of dissection mode," she commanded.

"Activating 3rd stage....…"

"Your order has been completed, Head Scientist Isla," the artificial intelligence EVOLVI answered after a few seconds.

"Begin transplantation," Isla said, her eyes glued to the figure of Kevin, filled with excitement for the possible result .

***************************************

Inside the white room.

Kevin felt a movement behind him, but he failed to notice any presence through his newly evolved superhuman senses.

Before he could analyze this new change, a whisper entered his ear like a devil's seduction.

His head began to hurt, and several desires, voices, unknown thoughts, began to appear inside his heart, acting like sharp arrows trying to pierce his mental fortitud.

Fanning him with negative emotions, trying to persuade him, and reminding him about his powerlessness, about his broken pride, about those broken promises of self supremicy; before he could understand anything, his consiousness fall into an abys filled with nothing but negative and chaotic thoughts.

Like someone had thrown a whole boulder inside a calm lake, these unknown emotions overwhelmed his mind.

Kevin did not see or even feel anything when an unknown, green, marble-like object pierced his chest.

Tearing through every protection that his newly evolved body could muster before embedding itself deep within his heart, claiming dominion over the very essence of his being.

A pulse of dark green lightning started to spread around his body, increasing his heart rate to an inhumane level. Sparks of dark green began to disintigrate his bones into fine dust.

Kevin Heart began to melt, unable to withstand such radiation. His blood began to boil, igniting his body in a fiery crimson glow, but the one who is suffering from all of this cannot feel it.

In the depths of his mind, Kevin felt an overwhelming tranquility, as if he were submerged in an endless ocean where all burdens faded away.

No longer would he be tormented by the need to suppress his cravings for his beloved meals in pursuit of fitness; the dawn's early light would no longer beckon him from slumber to adhere to a rigid routine; he won't have to worry about his stupid friend David; the only thing that remains now is just peace.

Kevin was not in a condition to understand that his very soul was dissipating inside his own sea of consciousness.

Slowly, piece after piece, he was losing his memories, his desires, and his self that made him who he was, getting devoured by the seed of true evolution.

As Kevin teetered on the brink of oblivion, a flicker of dark green lightning ignited in the hollow of his chest, where his heart once resided in his ethereal form.

He dismissed it, for even the act of thought felt like an insurmountable weight upon him.

The spark of dark green lightning, however, was relentless; it surged forth, enveloping his heart, then cascading through his chest, racing down his arms and legs, and finally encircling his head. In mere moments, the essence of Kevin was replaced by a being forged from pure green lightning.

Within the confines of the stark white chamber, Kevin had shed all semblance of humanity; every strand of hair and skin had been reduced to ash, leaving only two voids where his eyes once shone.

His body was marred by an array of cracks, each one pulsating with dark green lightning, growing ever more pronounced.

"Tsk, f#cking useless," Isla muttered under her breath.

She shook her head in disappointment for not getting something entertaining to watch.

Who would have thought that after showing such great capabilities, this test subject performance would be even worse than a medium-grade subject?

"to think he lost consciousness before even touching the seed"

Isla was about to order a dissection, but words stuck in her mouth when suddenly, everything around Kevin began to melt like ice in the desert.
