Chapter 2 - Chapter II: The New Secretary is Getting on My Nerves

Oh, come on... Honestly, I'm not in the mood to deal with all sorts of issues like interviewing for the secretary position... Anyway, Jonathan is experienced enough with these things.

Now that I have transmigrated into this love story, I need to figure out how to change the course of events in the story. I never want to end up with that girl... Why? Because being the only girl in our class, she's like a fox, extremely cunning. Her cunningness is well-known throughout the Academy, although no one says anything. Honestly, I think the biggest problem the main character, which is me, had during the presidential elections was the existence of that girl...

Let's leave these matters for another time. What's important is to continue with the events of Felix's first days among us, right?

Well, I don't know how everything went, but I do know that something strange happened because Felix seemed extremely upset.

"Felix, how was the interview?"

Well, to my surprise, Felix completely ignored me. I think he's mad at me, but I don't know why... I need to clarify this with Jonathan...

"Jonathan, how did the interview go?"

"Well, Maurice... The truth is, I was a bit tough on him, but he passed the tests..."

"Wait... What kind of tests? How were you tough on him?"

"Well... I told him that there would be a lot of work and that if he wants to be around you, he has to go through me first..."

"I see... Anyway, thanks for your help... Oh, I just sent someone to buy some beer and snacks... Will you join us?"

"Sure... When exactly-"

"No... You're not allowed without the approval of a teacher!" Marcus, our teacher, began to object.

"Well, maybe you can join us... You know, we can talk about biblical studies or other things..."

"If the president of the council says so, then maybe..."

"And don't forget... the nephew of the academy's director, right?"

After successfully bribing our teacher to come with us, we headed to the recreation room in our academy. It was a huge room filled with various entertainment options. An HD TV surrounded by the Academy's trophies from various Olympiads and competitions dominated the entire room. Various board games, chess tables, mahjong, and even foosball were around us. However, for now, we chose to stay around the table with drinks and snacks bought in honor of our new classmate.

"Oh, right... Felix isn't coming?"

"Honestly, I think he was tired and went to his room... Do you want me to call him?" one of the council members, who was his roommate, said.

"Does he know about this party?"

"I don't think so... Anyway, I'll go and inform him about it, and I'll be back with him."

"Sure, go ahead."

While waiting for Felix and his roommate, we started playing some mahjong, with some of us forming teams to play billiards. I was supposed to play against Marcus, our teacher... Although he boasted about playing such games in the seminar, due to the nerves of playing against me, maybe because of his age, he sank the black ball, causing him to lose.

Immediately after finishing the game of billiards, trying to encourage Marcus, our teacher, someone entered the room. It was Felix himself...

"Felix, come with us... Let's drink to celebrate our new classmate!"

"Um, I think I'll retire to my room... I'm a bit tired after today, so..."

"I'm sorry. Don't forget that we, the other nobles, have prepared all this to celebrate your arrival among us, so it would be nice if you were in our midst, enjoying together!"

"You know-"

"Listen, Felix... I don't care what kind of person you are, but as long as you're in our Academy, you'll do what we do, right?"

"Maurice, I think you're being a bit harsh on Felix, don't you think?"

"Father, I cannot allow myself to be refused so directly..."

To my surprise, Felix gave in and joined us at the party. Honestly, his tolerance for alcohol was higher than mine, so...

Things started to heat up after a few drinks, and the discussions began to change their topic...

"Father, have you ever been in love?" Jonathan asked Father Marcus.

"Well, I think that was a long time ago... You know, I'm already 27 years old and-"

"Boys... Come and listen to stories from the previous century..."

"Well... I was in love with someone. But that person fell in love with someone else, and I was so disappointed that I decided to leave everything behind and become a priest... A few weeks ago, I saw her again... She's married and has children, so-"

Marcus started to cry... I guess he's not that strong when it comes to alcohol, so... However, Jonathan began to console him, gently stroking his black coal-like hair.

"Jonathan, what are you doing?"

"Me? I thought you needed some comfort after such an incident... Speaking of which... Our Maurice has someone like that too..."

"What? Th-That's not the case... I mean... At least not now-"

"Oh, come on... Admit that you like Emily, everyone already knows it..."

"I don't like her at all... Why would you think I do? Just because she's a girl? Come on, Jonathan... She's a fox demon who ensnares all the men around her..."

Anyway, after a few more drinks, rounds of billiards, and foosball matches, we retired to our rooms. Jonathan was quite drunk, so I had to help him get to our room since we were roommates.

The next morning, after breakfast, I headed to class to prepare for the next lesson, which was music class. As I was walking towards the classroom, I heard an angelic tenor voice... Well, rather... It was a voice of an angel sent by divinity to show us how angels sing in heaven or something like that...

To my surprise, I noticed that the person with that angelic voice was Felix, my new secretary...

"Y-Your Highness... I apologize, I didn't see you coming... Anyway, it's not like-"

"Who stopped you from singing? I want to hear your voice. What do you say, can you impress me with your voice?"

Embarrassed and quite amazed, Felix left the classroom and headed towards the exit of the building. I'm quite sad that this guy isn't more open with me, but I hope everything will be resolved someday...

I went outside to see what was happening when I saw Felix together with Emily. I realized that that demon-woman was trying to lure Felix into her web, which made me sick.

Well, after classes, the Academy council meeting followed... As the president, I had to bring up a few topics that were selected by our vice president, Jonathan. Among them was the discussion about Emily's acceptance as a council member... I honestly can't agree with that, but I have to appear objective, so I accepted considering that most of the members agreed.

"Jonathan, can I talk to you about something?"

"S-Sure, Maurice... What is it?"

"Why did you bring up Emily's acceptance as a member? Are you trying to annoy me?"

"Wait... Do you mean to say that you don't like her at all? I've noticed a few times how you looked at her secretly, so..."

"No... That was in the past... Damn it, you've done something terrible..."

"Wait... Don't tell me that-"

"Shut up... Let me recover from the shock. I'm going to my room... If you're sleepy or something, you can join me."

"N-No... I think I should leave you alone for a while."

Is everything in my mind? Honestly, I never would have thought that I'd transmigrate into this novel that isn't even BL, but still... Something seems off about Felix.

In the morning, when I was in class and he ran away after seeing me, it was the beginning of the disaster... Now I can only say that the situation has worsened... Whenever I pass by Felix or try to greet him, he lowers his head and walks in the opposite direction. Could it be that I scared him because I was staring at him obsessively yesterday? Ha, I guess I need to snap out of it somehow.

"Oh, Maurice... Are you okay?"

I just ran into our teacher, Marcus. Honestly, I would never refuse a discussion on theological or other topics, but right now, I don't have the mental state for it... Plus, I feel extremely ill from the headache after the council meeting.

"I'm fine, Father Marcus... Well, I think I'm fine enough to survive until tomorrow, right?"

"If you want to tell me something, we can have a drink and talk..."

"Seriously? You started drinking after last night's party?"

"Well, I can see that you're more honest when you're drunk, so..."

"It's fine, let's go..."

I can't believe I'm drinking with my teacher, but I hope it turns out well. Anyway, Marcus started talking about his former love named Lorene, who was quite lovely, and other things... Well, it's not the same for me, and I don't know how to explain that.

"Maurice, is this about Felix, right? I could see how attentively you looked at him and at Emily, and I'm afraid you might be thinking that he could take Emily away from you... I just hope you won't do something reckless, okay?"

"What? That's not the reason... It's completely different... Honestly, I'd rather be in a relationship with Felix than with Emily... Everyone worships her because she's the daughter of the Duke of Milan, but I don't see anything interesting about her. Plus, now the council members want her as a member..."

"Wait, what? You didn't oppose it?"

"I can't... I want to maintain the image of a democratic president, not an absolutist dictator... Well, I don't know if it will work out in the end, but..."

"You've changed a lot, Maurice... Honestly, I want to understand why you're doing all of this, but I hope it all turns out well..."

"I hope so too, Father."

When I arrived in the room, Jonathan was asleep. It's one of those days when he's tired just because he sat on a chair for more than 4 hours. Well, I can't blame him... I didn't want Emily to become a member of the council, but...

Anyway, I need to calm down and clear my mind from the strange thoughts that have been plaguing me in the past couple of days. What could be more soothing than a walk through the beautiful garden of the Academy? I just hope to be alone this time.

However, it seems that's not the case... Felix was also strolling, trying to gather himself after all the things that have happened in these two days. He was alone... The perfect moment for me to approach him like a lion. But I hope I don't scare him if I confront him directly. Anyway, I want to try to gain his trust.

Meanwhile, some guys started approaching him, and I was too afraid to intervene. Not because I'm too weak, but because I might scare him...

"Hey, you must be Felix, right?" one of the guys asked him.

"Yes... Can I help you with something?"

"It seems you're the president's new rival, huh? On his behalf, we've come to teach you a lesson so you don't dare stand in his way, okay?"

"Wait, what? I-I haven't done anything to stand in the president's way... He's the one-"

He didn't have a chance to finish the sentence as he was struck forcefully by one of the guys. Wait, this happened in the novel too... Maybe I should stop them. However, before I could do anything, Felix was on the ground, covered in bruises and injuries...

Damn, these guys... I didn't send them, so it's not my fault. I have to somehow help him recover.

I approached him and noticed that he was unconscious. Honestly, I feel sorry for Felix, so I can't leave him here, even if Emily might come to save him... I just want to take him somewhere safe.

I carried him in my arms and took him to the Academy's infirmary, but on the way, I ran into Emily.

"Maurice, what happened?"

"It's a long story... If anyone asks who helped him, say it was you, okay?"

"S-Sure, but..."

I left him in Emily's care... Why did I do that? I need to pull myself together, though...
