Mrs. Wang and Qin Liuxi returned to the main room and sat down. She first handed over the long box she was holding.
"Your maternal grandmother sent this as your coming of age gift, do you like it? Try wearing it for fun."
Qin Liuxi opened it and saw a tian-tsui dragonfly hairpin inside. She picked it up, admired it for a while, then inserted it into the half-up hairdo on her head, purposely tilting her head: "Mother, does it look good?"
"Very pretty," Mrs. Wang expressed her delight, chidingly laughed and said: "But that's not how you wear a step-shake; all your hair should be done up into a bun to wear it properly. It might easily be lost the way you have it now."
Qin Liuxi replied, "I'm used to tying my hair in a Daoist bun, I don't know how to do those complicated hairstyles; they take too much time."
