Chapter 78 - No Face, No Eyes

Joe was brought back soon after being dealt with, but it was the same as before.

It was the same old story that others told before him.

Each of them was just as clueless to who was truly behind everything.

Either they were given the task by an acquaintance, which would lead to pursuing that person, or it would result in a dead end if the people involved were careful enough to cover their tracks and identity.

The result was that several people who were involved one way or another were captured and tortured to try to extract as much information out of them as possible.

Everything suggested that it was not handled in such a simplistic manner, and the true culprit behind everything had been quite good at making use of others to get things done.

They covered their tracks quite well while letting others take the fall for them if anything went wrong with their plan.

If someone was no longer useful to their cause, then they would cut them off without a second thought if it meant protecting themselves.

Such a person or organization that could do such things would be considered quite a tricky opponent since they could do a lot of damage without having to reveal themselves openly.

They could just sit back and watch as chaos broke out as a result of their manipulations.

One man was hanging in the room where he had been tortured for a long time.

He looked heavily wounded and exhausted from having to endure everything for so long.

What happened next was that he was hit in the stomach once more, causing him to cough up what little fluids he had left in his body. "Urgh.... I keep telling you. The person I met... they never revealed their face to me.

No, wait, now that I think about it. There was something strange about them. They may have worn a hood over their head, but that should not have been enough to hide their appearance from me.

How strange. Why can I not remember their face? Why can I not make it out from what I remember? Something is not quite right! It is just a blur. There was no face... there were no eyes... what did I see!?"

The mad ravings continued throughout the remainder of the torture, and he did not change his statement at any given time.

He died soon after leaving only a little information behind, which was enough to leave many conclusions being drawn by those who had heard them.

Max was listening to the report in his office while Butch was seated opposite him giving his opinion. "What do you think of this?"

Butch contemplated for some time before giving his honest thoughts. "It is possible that the last person could have been lying, or they may just be crazy. If it is not either of those, then I suspect that it may be the work of a quirk."

Butch had the belief that such a person had simply gone mad or they had wished to take the information they had to the grave.

Either they had gone so crazy that they were just saying any nonsense, or they were behaving that way on purpose to keep the truth from getting out and for those looking for such a person to look elsewhere.

If such things being spoken were the truth, then they must have experienced something very strange that would result in their memories of such an event being affected in such a manner.

Although Butch believed in one possibility, he could not rule out the possibility of there being another cause behind it all.

It almost seemed like some form of interference or something being altered somewhere, which resulted in such a confession.

If it was just being unable to make out the face of a person when facing them, then perhaps it had something to do with blocking out perception or something similar to causing others face blindness.

If it was not that, then it would probably have some other cause instead.

Most people, when faced with such a strange thing happening, would react immediately and remember it quite clearly.

If such a person met someone whose face they could not make out like others, then they would remember such an event, and they would find it strange.

If it was not visual interference, then it possibly had something to do with something linked to memory or perception.

If someone could not perceive something as being strange and could not make out such a thing happening in front of their eyes, then they would continue with their day without issue until they were forced to bring up such memories and to look clearly at it all again.

If it was related to memory, then it was likely that the person who met them did get a clear look at the face of the person they met, but they had no memory of it.

If such a thing happened, then either the memory itself did not register as they had seen it, or the memory itself had been altered or removed.

If someone had any of those capabilities, then it would be very useful for hiding their identity since they could avoid being identified by others whom they met up with and used such abilities on them.

When it came to Quirks, there were all kinds of different types, and they all had a wide range of different capabilities and limitations.

Some were more suited to combat than others, while there were certain Quirks that would be said to be most suited for a villain, and it was the same for heroes, too.

Quirks could be used to help others, but they could also be used for self-interest and to harm others.

Max may have agreed with Butch since such an idea might have seemed quite absurd since a Quirk of such a type would have surely been discovered if it did exist. "I cannot make a judgment right now.

You may be right, but I cannot rule out the possibility of it being the work of someone using a Quirk. If it is a quirk, then it is a very strange one that I have never encountered before in my whole life.

Even if there does exist a person like this, they must have limitations to what they can do. It might only work on one person, but it could work on anyone who looks at them as a part of a certain trigger.

What would be most important would be to not let them get away after first encountering them since there may be a risk of not being able to identify them."
