Chapter 51 - Ice queen on duty

Y/n POV

My fingers keep moving on the keyboard, eyes glued to the screen, acting like he's invisible. I can feel his presence, lingering like a shadow I don't want to acknowledge.

Kayden: "Y/N, what do you want to eat?"

His voice is softer now, careful—like he knows he's walking on thin ice.

Still, I don't look at him. Let him squirm a bit. Let him feel what silence tastes like.

He sighs, a faint sound of frustration—or maybe guilt? Good. Let it sink in.

Kayden: "Come on, just tell me. I'll get you whatever you want..."

His tone shifts, almost pleading. He's trying. I'll give him that.

I pause my typing, just for a second, enough to let him know I heard. Then I go back to work like nothing happened. Cold. Untouchable.

Let's see how long you'll dance around, Kayden.

.....

Kayden: "Y/N, are you even listening to me?"

I don't react. Not even a twitch.

Kayden: "Hey… did something happen to you?"

He steps closer, but I stand up without saying a word.

Kayden: "Y/N, did I do something?"

I grab a file and slide it into the shelf like it personally offended me.

Kayden: "Ah—Y/N, are you mad at me?"

Haha, he's getting frustrated. This is entertaining.

Kayden: "Y/N, look at me."

He walks closer, but I continue ignoring him. Then suddenly, he grabs my hand and pulls me against his chest.

Kayden: "I said, look at me."

I glance everywhere but at him—the ceiling, the wall, even the dusty plant in the corner. Anywhere but his eyes.

Kayden: "Why are you behaving like this…? Say something, please."

Nope. Not gonna happen. I remain silent like I took a vow of drama-fueled silence.

Kayden: "Y/N."

He bends down, trying to catch my eyes, but I just close them and turn my face from side to side like I'm swatting away bad vibes.

Kayden: "Fine."

Suddenly—mwah!—he kisses me on the cheek.

I try to pull away, but his grip isn't budging.

Don't do it, Y/N. Don't talk to him. Stay strong. You've got this.

Kayden: "Please say something."

Peck. Peck. Peck. Peck. Peck.

Each word is followed by a quick kiss—cheek, temple, forehead, nose, even my ear gets a surprise visit.

Kayden: "Aaaahhh, Y/N!"

He groans in frustration, running a hand through his hair like his life is falling apart.

Kayden: "I'm gonna cry, Y/N!"

He says it like a five-year-old who just dropped their ice cream. Dramatic. Desperate.

I push him away gently, still refusing to look at him. He grabs my chin, but I close my eyes like I'm starring in a slow-motion breakup scene.

Kayden: "Please, please, Y/N… talk to me. Look at me. I'll do anything, just don't do this to me. It's killing me already!"

He's rambling now—words pouring out faster than his brain can catch up.

Finally, I smirk.

Y/N: "Promise?"

I open my eyes and look at him.

Kayden: "Ah—finally! Yes, yes, I promise!"

Poor boy. Easy peasy.

Y/N: "Give her a chance."

He blinks. Confused. Panic loading.

Kayden: "What?"

Y/N: "Cassie. Give her a chance, Kayden."

He pauses for a second… then bursts out laughing.

Kayden: "Hahaha—funny, ha… ha… ha…"

His laugh slowly dies as he sees my face—stone cold serious.

Kayden: "Wait… are you serious?"

"Yep," I nod without hesitation.

Kayden: "You want me to be her boyfriend?"

I shake my head.

"I mean, no. But at least give her a chance. Go on a date… or at least listen to her feelings."

Kayden: "Really?!"

I raise an eyebrow.

"Do I look like I'm joking?"

He gulps.

Kayden: "…I don't agree," he mutters, looking anywhere but at me.

"Fine," I say, walking back to my desk and getting back to work.

A few minutes pass… but I can feel it—he's just watching me. Like a confused puppy with a broken heart.

Kayden: "Aah, this can't be happening…"

He grabs his hair and starts pacing like he's in a kid frustrated one.

I get up from my chair. The moment I do, he freezes. I walk straight toward the door, not even sparing him a glance.

Kayden: "Y/N—ahh, ahh!"

I stop and turn around. He's holding his leg and groaning in pain.

"Hey, what happened?!" I rush over, worried—until I see that stupid smirk on his face.

"…Idiot." I roll my eyes and get up to leave again.

Kayden: "Hey! Did you just call me an idiot?"

I don't even bother replying. I'm too hungry to deal with his acting career.

I head toward the café. As I step inside and take a seat, I see him following me like a stubborn shadow. I sit. He sits. Of course.

Kayden: "Ooh! Let's eat ice cream!"

Oh no.

No, Y/N. You can't lose that easily.

Stay strong.

Without saying a word, I get up and walk out of the café. Kayden just sits there—shocked, confused, possibly questioning all his life choices.

Nice one. I smirk to myself.

I head back into the office. And yep—he's still following me like a lost duckling. I sit down at my desk, grab my phone, and start playing a game like nothing ever happened.

Out of the corner of my eye, I can see it—he's fuming.

Huh. But who cares?

I hear him order something to eat, probably trying to distract himself from his heartbreak.

I get up again, walk out, and spot Ben Uncle near the hallway.

"Hey, Ben Uncle! Let's eat something in the café," I say sweetly, loud enough for Kayden to hear.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see him behind me. Watching. Probably internally screaming. I ignore him. Like a pro.

Mr. Ben: "Sure."

Kayden: "What the—?!"

Mr. Ben: "Did you say something, Mr. Scott?"

Kayden: "Ah—no, no!"

Busted.

"Let's go, Uncle Ben. I'm starving," I say with a smile, completely ignoring the fuming human shadow behind me.

We head to the restaurant, chatting and laughing over food.

Aah, I'm so full now, I think as I stretch a little in my seat.

"Uncle Ben, let's head back."

Mr. Ben: "Yeah, let's go."

We return to the office, and as soon as I step inside… I see Kayden.

He's at his desk, angrily stabbing his food with his fork like it insulted his entire bloodline.

He looks at me. Our eyes meet for a split second.

I immediately look away like I just saw a boring wall.

Graceful dodge. Expert level.

I walk calmly to my desk and sit down, pretending like I didn't just cause absolute emotional damage.
