Neito stood frozen at the gates of U.A. High. He looked calm on the outside, but inside, he was excited.
Next to him, Toru bounced on her feet. Only her clothes could be seen—her shirt, her skirt, her shoes. She was completely invisible.
"Snap out of it, Neito! We're here!" she said happily. "U.A. High!"
Neito snapped back to reality and nodded slowly. "Yeah. It's finally starting."
Toru tilted her head. "So, what class are you in? You didn't tell me yet."
Neito smiled. "Same as you. Class 1-A."
Toru gasped. "Really? No way! That's great!"
Neito smiled to himself. 'Not Class 1-B like in the original timeline. This time, I'm in Class 1-A… the main class.'
They walked together into the big school building. Students filled the hallways. Some looked nervous, others excited. Some already knew each other. Others didn't.
When they found the classroom, Toru peeked inside. "Wow… it's big."
Neito looked too. "Let's go in."
They walked into Class 1-A.
Desks were lined up in neat rows. Some students were already sitting down and talking. Everyone had their own spot.
Toru looked around. "Hmm… who should I sit with?"
Her eyes landed on a pink-skinned girl with curly hair and a big smile. The girl was laughing and waving at someone.
"She looks friendly," Toru whispered. Then she walked over.
"Hi! Is this seat free?" Toru asked.
The pink girl turned. "Yup! Come sit!"
"Thanks! I'm Toru!" she said, sitting down.
"I'm Mina! Nice to meet you!"
Meanwhile, Neito walked to another spot. A green-haired boy was sitting there, writing in a small notebook.
"Is this seat taken?" Neito asked.
The boy looked up. "Oh! No, not at all."
Neito sat down. "I'm Monoma Neito."
"I'm Midoriya Izuku. Nice to meet you!"
Behind Neito, a boy with a bird-like head leaned forward.
"You were the top student from the entrance exam," he said in a deep voice. "Correct?"
Neito turned and smiled. "Yes, that's me."
"I'm Tokoyami Fumikage," the boy said. "It's good to meet you." He held out his hand.
Neito shook it. "Nice to meet you too."
Just then, a dark shadow slipped out from behind Tokoyami. It had glowing eyes and claw-like hands. It floated gently toward Neito.
Tokoyami introduced it. "That's Dark Shadow. He has a mind of his own, like a pet dog. He likes meeting people."
Neito smiled. "Hi there, Dark Shadow."
But then—something strange happened.
A second shadow came out. This time, it was from behind Neito. It looked very similar to Dark Shadow, but a little smaller and smoother.
It floated in the air and waved at Tokoyami's shadow.
Dark Shadow stepped back, surprised. Even Tokoyami blinked in confusion.
"Wait," he said. "Do you… have a quirk like mine?"
Neito was about to speak—
But just then, a quiet voice came from the front of the classroom.
"You all talk too much."
Everyone turned.
A man in a yellow sleeping bag was lying on the floor.
He slowly unzipped the bag and sat up. His hair was messy. His eyes looked sleepy.
"I'm Aizawa. Your homeroom teacher," he said. "It took five seconds for you all to quiet down. That's five too many."
Midoriya whispered, "Is he… sleeping on the classroom floor?"
Aizawa stood up. "No time for introductions. We're doing a quirk apprehension test. Change into your gym clothes and meet outside."
Boys' Changing Room
The boys were getting ready. Shirts and pants were being pulled on. Some of them were talking to each other.
Kirishima smiled. "Man, I'm excited! First day, and we already get to use our quirks!"
Kaminari nodded. "This school is awesome."
Tokoyami turned to Neito. "Earlier… was that really a shadow like mine?"
Neito nodded. "Yes. I have your quirk too."
The boys around them paused.
"Wait," Kaminari said. "You have 'his' quirk?"
Neito zipped up his jacket. "You'll see."
The other boys looked at each other, confused.
Girls' Changing Room
The girls were chatting while changing.
Mina grinned. "So, Toru, you came in with that blond guy. Are you two… dating?"
Toru froze. "W-What?! No! We're just friends!"
"Really?" Mina asked with a wink. "You seem close."
Toru looked down at her invisible hands. "Well… we met at the entrance exam. He's nice. We… have the same quirk."
Tsuyu blinked. "Same quirk? Do you mean similar? Or are you related?"
Toru raised her voice. "We're NOT related!"
The room got quiet.
Then Toru added, "I mean… he has the 'same' quirk. He can turn invisible. You'll see at the test."
Mina smiled. "Whoa… that's cool."
Outside, on the Field
All the students stood in a line in their gym uniforms.
Aizawa stood in front of them, still looking sleepy.
"We will now begin the quirk apprehension test," he said.
The students looked at each other. Some looked excited, others nervous.
"You can use your quirks," Aizawa added. "Some quirks are just better than others." His eyes passed over Neito for a moment. "This test will show you where you stand. You are not equal."
Kaminari raised a hand. "Wait, we get to use our quirks for PE? That's awesome!"
Mina cheered, "Yeah! Let's go!"
Aizawa glared at them. "Oh? You think this is fun? Then whoever comes in last will be expelled."
Gasps spread across the class.
Midoriya's mouth dropped open. "Expelled? On the first day?"
Aizawa didn't blink. "Yes."
Silence followed.
Neito folded his arms, a confident look on his face. 'I wonder if I can set a school record during this test. If someone can do it, it would be me.'
