Chapter 108 - Chapter 108 - Exploring the North.

[Chapter Size: 2100 Words.]

Third Person POV.

Beyond of the Wall.

...

...

Feet pounded against the snow as the white creature advanced with a massive group of wights following close behind, a horde keeping its slow pace as they moved north.

The White Walker kept his eyes alert on the scene ahead, but all he could see were trees and snow in that forest. Even the small animals were absent from the area, avoiding them, all hiding from their presence, instinctively knowing the danger that group represented to the local life.

Everything seemed ordinary, but the cautious eyes of the White Walker knew something was wrong there. His gaze turned to his companion, about ten meters away atop his undead horse.

They shared an uncertainty, as if they were being watched the entire time. And it was at that moment that their eyes turned to the sky, where they saw some birds flying hundreds of meters high. But they could tell the birds had been watching them the whole time, staring at them.

If they had doubts that someone was spying on them, now they were certain, as the eagle was being controlled by some skinchanger, making them exchange looks and stay alert in that moment.

Then a whistle came from the forest, as something at high speed rushed directly at them, tearing through the air.

Before they could even understand, the White Walker on the horse was struck the next second by an arrow hitting directly in the middle of his forehead, piercing it, while his eyes showed he couldn't believe he had been hit — and the arrow hadn't exploded upon touching his skin.

The next moment, his body began to crack and explode, while another White Walker quickly positioned himself in defense, seeing another arrow coming toward him.

Before he could be hit, he reacted and struck it with his spear in an inhuman motion, destroying the arrow as it was crushed and shattered.

As the first White Walker hit was destroyed, his horse began to collapse to the ground, and a portion of the over a thousand wights began to fall immediately.

The last White Walker looked quite concerned, quickly pointing to the fallen dead, beginning to raise them again.

They all opened their eyes and, for a second time, stood up, as he pointed his spear forward, ordering them to advance and go after those who were attacking.

At the same time, his gaze turned back to the fallen arrow among the remains of his companion — a dragonglass arrow.

Some distance away, unconcerned with hundreds of undead starting to run through the forest, a man smiled in satisfaction upon seeing one of them fall.

"You did well," Jon said, looking from the other side, through the trees, while Ygritte wore armor and held a special bow, full of runes in its weirwood-carved wood, which Jon had made for her.

She had a quiver full of arrows with dragonglass tips, which had been reproduced over the past year.

"I missed the second arrow," Ygritte murmured in dissatisfaction, standing over a hundred meters from the White Walkers, with Jon helping to point out the perfect spot to hit them, even between trees, so the arrows wouldn't fall or be blocked by vegetation.

"Don't be so hard on yourself. You've proven to be quite capable with this," Jon said calmly, and she nodded, though she wished she had done more.

"Well, looks like the undead are listening. Let's welcome them, folks," Jon said, his eyes glowing, able to see all the movement of the dead, while one White Walker stayed behind.

Jon turned to look back, as an entire group of men in armor and swords stood behind him. Mostly red armor, used by the Lannisters in King's Landing, since Jon had raided the City Watch garrison in various places. He managed to get at least 500 sets of armor just from the city, handing them over to the free folk.

Quickly, they all advanced with him leading. Jon also wore an iron armor, advancing with his sword Dark Sister in one hand and a large, thick shield — a Valyrian steel relic he found in the vault of the Citadel, kept hidden, since he had never heard of a Valyrian steel shield in Westeros.

He kept moving forward, and his over three hundred elite men, trained over the last year, advanced swiftly, already seeing the dead running toward them between the trees.

Jon spun his sword quickly, cutting down the first and moving on to the second, while at his side, his men quickly joined in, striking them with swords — not Valyrian steel, but as soon as they touched the enemies, they began to combust.

The swords were marked with runes that Jon had prepared for the free folk, quickly creating a wave of flames as the first part of the enemy line burned the dead with ease.

Jon kept advancing, while arrows flew from Ygritte's bow, who was behind with other archers, shooting directly at the line where the White Walkers were, first hitting the dead passing through, standing in spots not blocked by the trees ahead.

Jon cut one here and another there, while Val was also at his side, running dressed in armor. Though originally heavy, she remained quite fast, cutting down enemies with extreme ease due to her speed, as the armor was full of runes that greatly reduced its weight and increased its durability.

While the dead hit the free folk fighting on the spot, they couldn't even hurt them, the steel protecting them from any weapon they had, whether bronze or bone.

They kept cutting down the dead until they finally reached the field where the first Walker had been struck. More than half of the original wights there were already falling to the ground, burning, even spreading flames to the trees themselves, which began to die next to the wood.

Jon walked, seeing a White Walker ahead of him, while displaying a smile.

"Look what we have here."

The situation was a bit desperate for the creature, and Jon could see the glint of fear and caution in the White Walker's eyes, with his whole group destroyed and only about two hundred wights around him, while more and more free folk in armor approached, cutting them down.

"Cease fire with the arrows!" Jon shouted, and it echoed easily throughout the forest, as Ygritte and the other archers stopped firing.

Jon saw Val staring at him, while the wights died in front of them, and he turned to her, showing a determined look from inside his helmet, and he returned her gaze, asking her to proceed.

"Let me face him," she asked, looking directly at the White Walker, while the free folk men were already cutting down the last enemies, as the flames consumed them across the ground.

Jon seemed to think for a moment. He certainly didn't want to put Val at risk, but he nodded.

"Alright, but don't complain if I interfere when I see you're about to die, understood?" he said with a serious tone, and she nodded.

With a determined look, she quickly advanced forward, while the White Walker searched for any enemy approaching, now seeing Val coming directly at him. The free folk men would have originally left the White Walker to Jon, knowing none of them could truly fight him without catching him by surprise.

And so, Val approached, quickly striking her sword against the White Walker's ice spear, which he expected to shatter it. But the sharp sound of the blades echoed, as the White Walker was surprised to see that Val's blade had not been destroyed. In fact, it was a Valyrian steel sword, also from the Citadel. Jon had given that weapon to Val.

Quickly, she moved, advancing against him, who, caught by surprise, was at a disadvantage, retreating while trying to defend himself from Val's attacks with his spear, the metallic sound of the weapons echoing.

"Hey, are you sure she can face him?" Tormund appeared, pulling out his axe, which burned a wight, near Jon, who was watching Val's fight, as the last wights were now all dead.

"No, she can't handle him," Jon murmured, seeing the White Walker stop retreating and start defending head-on, even gaining the upper hand against Val, who frowned, beginning to fall back.

The people around had already finished defeating a thousand wights, which wasn't too difficult for three hundred warriors in armor, who now fought in formation and with weapons that ignited anything they touched, each eliminating three or four to annihilate all thousand.

Jon began stepping forward, as everyone stopped and watched the final fight, still surrounding the clearing. Val was frowning, stepping back, before the White Walker created an opening above her. She barely managed to defend herself as the spear thrust directly at her shoulder, striking her armor.

"AHHH!" she cried out in pain, feeling the tip of the spear tear into her skin.

The White Walker pointed with satisfaction, wanting to kill that human and all the others there. But at the same time, he felt he couldn't push the spear any further — he was being stopped.

All eyes turned to Jon, who raised his hand, pointing at the White Walker, preventing him from moving. The enemy's gaze trembled with fear, seeing that human doing something to him — a magic he didn't understand.

Val, despite the pain, saw this and quickly thrust her weapon, piercing the White Walker's belly before he could react, and she twisted the sword. Unable to move his body, the creature quickly cracked and exploded into shards of glass, with his spear falling to the ground after sliding out of Val's shoulder.

She knelt from the intense pain, not due to the puncture, which was shallow, but from the intense cold the weapon had generated.

Portals began to open around her, as 2 Springers appeared.

"Heal her," Jon ordered, as the nature creatures of Skyrim — who could even be equivalent to a child of the forest in this world — began to use magic on her shoulder, on the opening in the armor that had been easily cut by the spear. No matter what protection she had, those weapons were deadly against common steel, even when reinforced with magic.

Val was having some difficulty breathing, as she looked at Jon, staring at him, feeling a bit ashamed of it. After all, if it weren't for him, she would have died or, at the very least, lost her arm.

"You have to be careful, Val," Jon said in a serious tone, seeing that she still had much to learn.

"Sorry," she murmured, swallowing her pride, as she felt her skin beginning to ease, the cut closing with those creatures of Jon's surrounding her.

"Well, we're done here. And we won't even need to burn the bodies at all. Let's head back to the camp," Jon said, as he picked up the weapons of the fallen White Walkers, the only thing that remained of them.

A group of archers was approaching them, starting to leave through the other side, while Jon saw the forest catching fire. He used a shout that burst in a wave of snow, extinguishing all the flames.

"Let's go," Jon said to Val, who was waiting for him, and they continued moving toward their camp.

They had been operating in this area of the North, gathering some more tribes that could be rescued and responding to some calls for help — what Mance had struggled to do in gathering tribes for his camp, Jon now managed easily, showing how they were handling the White Walkers, like now, with his group eliminating a thousand of them without a single loss.

A few hours later, the camp came into view as they kept approaching the place. Around 2,000 men had originally come with him to operate in this area, while they had managed to gather more than 3,000 free folk from the region.

"Jon," a man approached them, coming out of the camp as soon as he saw the group.

"Something wrong?" Jon asked.

"Not necessarily, Jon, but we captured and subdued a group from the Night's Watch. Among them is a man named Benjen Stark," he said cautiously, well aware that it was already public among the free folk that Jon had a mother from the Stark family.

"Benjen Stark? You didn't kill him, did you?" Jon asked immediately, with a serious tone.

"No, we didn't kill him. No one. We subdued him easily, we were much larger than their group, so it was easy to find them after our skinchangers located the group," he replied, sensing that Jon would be furious if Benjen had been killed.
