Chapter 10 - 008 Wings are very hard

Du Yu, who returned to the school gate, remembered the scene of the heavy rain of Thousand Paper Cranes.

The sanitation work in Ancient Pine Tower City is quite meticulous, and with citizens voluntarily picking up and taking them home, since yesterday when he returned from the hospital, Du Yu rarely saw traces of the Thousand Paper Cranes.

"Hello teacher, this is my credential." In front of the school bus door, Li Mengnan took out a piece of paper and handed it to the fierce-looking middle-aged man at the bus door.

The man looked to be in his mid-thirties, tall and burly, with dark skin and a face like a chiselled sculpture.

Perhaps he had lost his hand when chiselling, there was a long scar from the corner of his right eye to his jaw, adding a touch of ferocity to him.

"Hmm." The scar-faced man didn't take the paper but simply glanced at it and slightly tilted his head, gesturing towards the bus door beside him.

This small gesture really had style.

Li Mengnan picked up her suitcase and boarded the bus, followed by Du Yu who also produced his paper credential.

The scar-faced man glanced at Du Yu's credential, his reaction showed a hint more than before, as he assessed Du Yu with fierce eyes.

"Pure Fire, Du Yu." The scar-faced man's voice was like a low bass that made one's head buzz.

The scar-faced man gestured at the Black Wood Bow behind Du Yu, "I heard, you just got your Demon Soldier yesterday, and already you've gathered the Fire Arrow?"

"Just luck." Du Yu responded softly.

"I hope your luck extends a bit longer." The scar-faced man patted Du Yu's shoulder, "For the next 3 days, you belong to me."

While speaking, the scar-faced man slightly bowed his head, bringing his lips close to Du Yu's ear, "Be prepared, my expectations for geniuses are different."

Du Yu slightly tilted his head and looked at the scar-faced man whose smile was odd, and he too showed a quirky smile, "It's my honor."

"Oh?" The child daring to retort like this was unexpected for the scar-faced man.

Du Yu steadied his mind and stepped onto the bus stairs.

Awakening at 17, how could he be considered a genius? Those who awakened at 10 and 11 years old are the real children of destiny.

But Du Yu didn't voice any doubts nor did he refute the teacher's comments.

To him, strict demands were a good thing. If he could receive focused attention during training, it would be extremely beneficial for him to integrate into this world!

Du Yu knew he didn't do well on the college entrance exam, and now he had such a rare opportunity to change his life, he would certainly give his all!

As Du Yu boarded the bus and looked around, there were already 14 or 15 students seated, likely graduates from various high schools.

It's no surprise that they're all the lucky ones blessed by the heavy rain of Thousand Paper Cranes.

Du Yu stepped toward the back of the bus and, seeing Li Mengnan sitting by the window and the empty seat beside her, he hesitated for a moment and continued walking further back.

"Hey!"

Du Yu turned his head, "I'm not called hey."

As he spoke, Du Yu felt a bit uneasy; what if someone on the bus responded to the signal? That sure would be something!

"Sit here." Li Mengnan pushed her suitcase with her long legs in front of her seat, gesturing to the empty seat beside her.

After waiting for a long time with no refreshing words, Du Yu felt relieved, "You're not bothering me anymore?"

"Better than a stranger." Li Mengnan said, glancing once behind Du Yu.

Du Yu turned around and didn't recognize the student behind him, but squeezed further back and came across a familiar face.

Finally met someone from the same school, and it was a student from the class next door — Wei Feng.

The boy was tall and thin, like a stick. His refined face was adorned with a pair of frameless glasses, looking rather delicate.

Wei Feng, who squeezed past, didn't pay attention to Du Yu, he held a cyan little Wolf Lake Dog and laughed, "What a surprise, Li Mengnan."

"Hmm." Li Mengnan didn't even look at Wei Feng, after glancing at the Wolf Lake Dog, she grabbed Du Yu's arm and pulled him into the vacant seat beside her.

She knows all too well the tenacity of this adhesive plaster; if there's no one beside her, this guy would annoy her the whole way...

To know, Teacher Li not only was the class teacher for Li Mengnan and Du Yu but also taught Wei Feng's class.

Just for the third year alone, Teacher Li had contacted Wei Feng's parents no less than twice. Even so, this guy's wicked heart is undying, and he keeps haunting Li Mengnan. She's almost crazy.

Wei Feng glanced at the seated Du Yu and slapped his shoulder heavily, "Ha, you actually awakened too, the tide has turned huh?"

Needless to say what tide is referred to, this ebb, implying Du Yu's previous mountain climbing accident.

Du Yu was displeased, looking at the hand on his shoulder, he raised his eyes to Wei Feng, "With your level, can you even use idioms?

Oh, right! This seems to be an answer on our high school entrance exam, learned while checking answers yesterday?"

"Pfft..."

"Hehe~" A chuckle spread throughout the bus; this lad's mouth is cutting, isn't it?

And after Du Yu looked up, Wei Feng lost his voice, staring blankly at Du Yu's eyes.

The Du Yu from one's impressions was far less impressive than he was today! These eyes, this...

"Woof!" The little wolf dog perhaps hadn't understood the conversation, but being as keen as it was, it could sense the attitudes of both sides.

This bark was clearly cheering for its owner.

Wolf Lake Dog, a Water-type Demon Pet. It had cyan fur, stunningly beautiful.

This type of Demon Beast is famous, it's not only the newbie Demon Pet recommended by Ancient Pine Tower City but also the standard for the violent agencies of Great Xia.

"Move up front, don't block the way!" Urging voices came from several students at the rear.

Wei Feng snapped back to reality, looking at the drastically changed Du Yu, his sense of crisis intensified!

"Hmph." Wei Feng, who didn't gain an advantage, snorted coldly, suppressing his anger as he turned toward the back.

"Woof! Woof!" The Wolf Lake Dog repeatedly bared its teeth at Du Yu, barking several times, causing annoyance...

The teenagers and young girls, not yet having faced the blows of society, didn't have much in the way of complex thoughts.

Li Mengnan's disgust was clear on her face, and Wei Feng's jealousy and hostility toward Du Yu were equally evident.

Actually, Du Yu was never any sort of protector of beauties; his mind was always focused on studying, just wanting to change his own fate.

But since he lived at Teacher Li Hong's house, it was unavoidable to go to and from school together with Li Mengnan, which naturally made him a target.

As Wei Feng walked away, a glimmer of interest flashed through Li Mengnan's eyes as she looked at Du Yu, and she whispered, "You bookworm, usually as quiet as a clam, and you can actually talk back, huh?"

Du Yu was fiddling with the Black Wood Bow, muttering, "I really owe you one."

But he indeed did owe her, thinking about Teacher Li Hong's previous instructions, he didn't feel too wronged.

Li Mengnan seemed to have discovered a new continent. Ever since Du Yu started staying at her house, he had always been very polite to her.

Now that the college entrance exams are over and the kid no longer lives with the Li family, has he grown wings?

Li Mengnan wanted to sass back, but she chickened out, afraid that Du Yu would retort.

She disliked Du Yu but disliked Wei Feng even more.

At least Du Yu brought academic pressure on her, and at least he wasn't leering at her body!

Li Mengnan pouted, trying to regain her dignity, "Give me the Fire Fireworks."

Du Yu touched his forehead, and within a few seconds, visibly perceptible Fire Element light particles flowed from his brow, forming a Little Fire Fox.

Li Mengnan's eyes instantly widened:!!!

"Here."

Du Yu just placed the Little Fire Fox into Li Mengnan's hands when the little creature cheerfully chirped, nestling its fluffy little head into the girl's soft embrace.

"You've already signed a contract?"

Du Yu nodded lightly, "Learned online yesterday."

Li Mengnan said dazedly, "I also studied all night yesterday, why didn't I learn it?"

Du Yu turned to look at Li Mengnan, giving her a sorrowful expression.

Li Mengnan ignored Du Yu's little expression, instead bubbling with excitement and whispering, "You've activated the Demon Soldier and self-learned how to sign a contract, you're a Demon Taming Genius!"

Du Yu awkwardly waved his hand, not daring to take all the credit.

I just secretly raised a Little Golden Crow, that's all~

Li Mengnan tilted her head, her beautiful big eyes scrutinizing Du Yu up and down, seemingly having made a significant decision: "Great! From today onwards, you're my first little follower!"

Du Yu: "Uh?"

"What's with that expression? I, Li Mengnan, am destined to become a Demon Taming Saint of the Great Xia! Surrounded by Divine Pets, with numerous capable War Generals under my command, and countless fervent followers who worship me as a Divine..."

The more Li Mengnan spoke, the more terrifying it sounded; Du Yu even considered calling the police.

She was indeed being a bit too dramatic, but at the end of the day, Du Yu, who was new to this world, couldn't understand how deeply ordinary people craved the job of Demon Taming.

After waiting for many years, Li Mengnan finally reached the tail end of the awakening age; perhaps such a grand Demon Taming dream had been with her since she was a child?

Du Yu hesitated for a moment, refraining from commenting, just silently turning his head to the side.

"Stupid little guy, just as annoying as your master." Li Mengnan lowered her head, poking the Little Fire Fox's head with her finger.

But she loved the Little Fire Fox so much, despite her harsh wording, the joy hidden in her eyes completely betrayed her.

One teases; the other willingly gets teased.

It's mutual admiration for sure...

"Snap." The school bus doors suddenly closed, and the scar-faced man stood at the front, "All twenty-four are present. From now on, you are all students of the same term."

The scar-faced man's fierce gaze swept over each young face, causing the group of students to quickly lower their heads, not daring to meet his eyes.

The scar-faced man continued, "You are companions, but also competitors. At the end of the training, I will select an outstanding student and custom-make a Demon Soldier for them.

The newbie Demon Soldiers in your hands have only a one-month usage period. Once the time is up, they'll lose their effectiveness and become ordinary wooden products."

Upon hearing this, Du Yu raised his head to look at the scar-faced man.

He had no money! He desperately needed a custom Demon Soldier!

Scar-faced man: "The Demon Soldier made for the outstanding student will come from the hands of an academy master. Its usage period will be extended, and its effectiveness will be stronger! Something you can't buy even if you have money, so I hope you all put in the effort."

The scar-faced man continued, "My name is Gong Cheng, and you can call me Instructor Gong. I will be very strict with you.

Of course, if you can't handle it, just tell me openly. From the moment you speak, I will give up on you and never set any expectations for you again.

If you can't stand my style, it's best to get off early; I'll give you 10 seconds to think about it."

Although Gong Cheng was intimidating with his words, most of the students on the bus were rather disdainful.

How strict can it be? It's only three days, we can't possibly not endure it?

No one moved on the bus, and Gong Cheng stepped into the driver's seat. As the vehicle started, he glanced up at the rear-view mirror and suddenly said, "Du Yu."

"Here." Du Yu, confused, stood up holding onto the front seat.

Gong Cheng: "From now on, you are the class leader."

Du Yu stared at Gong Cheng blankly: "I... huh?"

A peculiar smile appeared on Gong Cheng's face, and his hideous scar scrunched up, "Huh what? This is your honor."

The words Du Yu said to Gong Cheng before getting on the bus were being returned word for word.

Gong Cheng ignored everyone else, turned his gaze forward, and continued driving.

Leaving only Du Yu standing there dumbfounded, facing all sorts of gazes from his classmates...

Three days as class leader doesn't attract much appeal from anyone, let alone having to be called and ordered around by the teacher.

But after the training period, an outstanding student would be selected and awarded a Demon Soldier!

This was a huge deal!
