I burst out of the room, nearly stumbling into a nurse who was passing by. I mumbled an apology before moving down the hallway and slumping down to the floor against a wall, tears filling my eyes as I replayed the last minute in my head over and over.
I had never switched emotions so quickly, and it was causing my head to pound painfully. When I walked in and saw Rion’s deep gray eyes open, I was ecstatic. It took everything I had not to throw my arms around his neck and squeeze him to me. I feared that I would never be able to look into those glowing orbs again or hear his deep, comforting voice ever again.
The relief had been too brief when Rion turned to lock gazes with me. The hate that had been there was unmistakable. The look of overwhelming contempt made me feel as if I had been slapped by him.
I shook my head hard. I would have rather been slapped than looked at that way by him.
