Chapter 25 - X

"Master, this is...?" Mae asked when Khai returned to their hideout. The Second Prince was rubbing the side of his head and Vio trailed silently behind it.

"Exactly as you've seen it," Khai murmured tiredly. He had exhausted quite a bit while tackling the entire quest. It wasn't really quite an act when Khai pulled the Sick Boy stance. He had after all, been subjected to multiple venoms and poisons in order to overcome all the toxicity in all the poisons. Technically, no poison could really harm him now. However, the backlash would be - exactly as what had happened when he toppled onto Freia whenever he had an outburst of such episodes.

"Lady Red has sent her assassins over," Khai nodded and looked at Vio, "Sure we put you to a test?" he smirked and Vio nodded it's head confidently. Vio was in his miniature state but it was utterly certain that hardly any other creature was comparable to it. He wasn't a mystical creature for nothing!

"Alright, let's go." Khai got out and stood at the edge of the window.

"Mae, one last thing. Keep a look out for Ren, he's definitely up to no good. And... her, as well. If anyone harms her, kill that person," Khai ordered coldly and Mae bowed her head with a quick submissive knock and gesture.

Pleased, Khai went off in an instant.

Freia tossed and turned that night.

Her mind wandered to the night she was facing the 21st century Kai. His brows were slightly furrowed as his pale ivory skin glowed against the blue light of the server room that they were in.

She was wounded, pretty severely near her abdomen. Her consciousness slipped in and out from the mind numbing pain. She had failed the final mission. The drug lord had his entire associates all over the entire building searching for her. She didn't know how Kai had managed to find her. Vaguely, she realised that his entire being was soaked. She couldn't tell why but it was the first she had seen him this ruffled. He was usually sickeningly and overtly calm, cool and composed. Kai's eyes trailed to the gash and he held the wound for her and she couldn't help but whimper in pain. Stifling her cries, Kai swooped in and placed his lips on hers. She frowned and gripped her hand tightly from the pain. Kai gently took her hands in his and he held her hands, soothing her clamped fists as he unfolded her hands. Tightening his grip on her hands, Freia vaguely recalled him deepening the pressure on her lips, forcing them open and she finally regain her consciousness.

Her first instinct was to push him away but Kai, for once, remained as still as a block refusing to budge away from her. He was usually so damn polite and distant, wasn't it? Always protective of the space that he had, from her.

This time, the space was negated. Freia didn't realise that there were tears in her eyes.

Why was she crying even? Was it the fact that she was glad that all these years of her one-sided love had finally blossomed into... quite possibly something?

With a start, she realised that the pain was receding. Leaning back and pulling away from Kai, "What? How?" she realised that her injuries were healed and the skin around her wounded area had regenerated. Almost as though she had never been injured.

Smiling faintly, Kai patted the top of her head lightly , "I'll still need you to run the missions, Freia. You're my ace."

The light had gone out from her eyes. She was hidden in the shadows. "That's all I am to you?" she asked, "Your ace?"

Kai looked at her darkened expressions, he tightened the grip on his fists and he nodded his head with a slight smile, "Yes and you will always be my ace, Freia."

Freia pried his arms away from her stoically. Getting up, she didn't wait to question why her wounds had magically disappeared. She moved towards the exit shakily, her back was facing Kai.

Her voice was barely a whisper, "You know exactly what I mean, Kai. If being your ace is what you want, then I'll gladly fulfil this, forever."

Forever is a long, long time, isn't it?

Isn't it?

Isn't... quite.

Kai lowered his eyes, his pale face was ashen. In the silence, he pulled his hands away. Glancing at them, it was soaked with blood.

"Master, why! Why are you so, so silly?" Mei appeared in a jiffy, she had a bob hair cut. "Where's Kei?" she exclaimed and a good looking young lad appeared in a jiffy as well.

Gasping, he quickly took out his medical kit and dressed Kai's wounds skilfully.

"Powerful as you are, master. You'll topple too eventually if you do not take care of your mortal body," Kei warned worriedly. Kai glanced at the two of them pointedly and they knew that they had ranted way too much. Sighing loudly, they got to their work as Kai closed his eyes.

All he could think about was Freia's resigned expression - Was he... wrong?
