Chapter 374 - Ch 161 - Passing of the Mantle

The grand hall of the Heaven and Earth Sect was alive with energy, the air buzzing with anticipation as lanterns cast a golden glow across the faces of the gathered crowd. This was no ordinary ceremony.

Today marked the passing of the mantle of leadership from Jason, the revered Sect Master, to his chosen disciple, Zhou Weiqing.

Jason stood tall in the center of the hall, his regal bearing commanding the attention of everyone present. His voice, steady and authoritative, silenced the hum of conversation as he addressed the assembly.

"Today is a day of change—a day of new beginnings for the Heaven and Earth Sect. I had established this sect and for a long time, I have borne the responsibility of guiding our sect, striving to uphold the principles of balance. But every leader must one day step aside to allow the next generation to rise."

The crowd held their breath as Jason turned toward Zhou Weiqing. Beside him, Zhou Weiqing stood with his head held high, his face a mixture of resolve and humility. Years of grueling training, battles, and sacrifices had led him to this moment.

"Zhou Weiqing," Jason continued, his voice rich with emotion, "You have proven yourself time and again. Your strength still needs some improvements unmatched but your wisdom is sharp, and your compassion for those under your care is unwavering. Today, I pass the mantle of Sect Master to you."

Jason reached into his robes, producing the ornate jade emblem of the Sect Master. Its intricate carvings gleamed in the light, a symbol of the immense responsibility it represented. He held it out toward Zhou Weiqing, who knelt before him, his hands trembling as he accepted the emblem.

"I vow to honor the trust you have placed in me," Zhou Weiqing said, his voice resolute despite the weight of the moment. "I will lead the Heaven and Earth Sect with integrity and dedication, upholding the values that you have instilled in us."

A ripple of applause swept through the hall, soon swelling into a thunderous roar. Elders stepped forward one by one, their faces lit with approval, to offer their congratulations. Among them were familiar faces, each with their own words to mark the occasion.

Zhou Shui Niu, Zhou Weiqing's father, stepped forward first. A burly man with a booming voice and a proud gleam in his eyes, he clapped a heavy hand on his son's shoulder. "You've made your old man proud today, Weiqing. I always knew you had it in you to achieve greatness, but seeing you here… it's more than I ever imagined."

Shangguan Bing'er, Zhou Weiqing's fiancée, approached next, her graceful movements drawing admiring gazes from the crowd. Her voice was soft but carried a firm conviction as she looked into Weiqing's eyes. "I've watched you grow and overcome so much, Weiqing. I'll stand by you, always, as you take this step into the future."

Behind her came her parents, Shangguan Tianyue and Tang Xin. Shangguan Tianyue, ever the stern figure, offered a nod of approval. "You have earned this, Zhou Weiqing. Lead with honor, and remember the weight of every decision you make."

Tang Xin smiled warmly, her maternal pride evident. "We are here to support you, always."

Wu Yuehan, Zhou Weiqing's second fiancée, joined them, her expression soft and affectionate. "Your path is one that inspires, Weiqing. I have no doubt you'll lead the sect to new heights."

Finally, Wu Yunyue, the Grand Elder known as the Demonic Emperor, stepped forward. His imposing aura filled the hall, his presence commanding as he addressed Zhou Weiqing.

"Sect Master Zhou," He said, his voice resonating with power, "You have earned the respect of not just me, but of the entire sect. As someone who has seen your potential firsthand, I am proud to stand beside you as your Grand Elder."

The room erupted into cheers once again, the energy palpable as the ceremony reached its climax. Zhou Weiqing, though overwhelmed, felt a deep resolve settle within him. This was his moment, and he was ready.

Jason raised a hand to quiet the crowd. "Let us not forget that with great power comes even greater responsibility. Together, under Zhou Weiqing's leadership, the Heaven and Earth Sect will continue to thrive."

The hall erupted into applause once more, the sound carrying with it a sense of hope and unity. Zhou Weiqing rose, the jade emblem clutched in his hand, and turned to face the assembly. He saw not just his allies and loved ones, but a family united by purpose.

The night continued with festivities and celebration, marking the dawn of a new era for the Heaven and Earth Sect under the guidance of Zhou Weiqing.

It was all thanks to Jason's meticulous arrangements, the Heavenly Demon Sect was disbanded and their members joined the Heaven and Earth Sect, increasing his strength even further.

The celebration that followed was grand, with tables laden with delicacies and music filling the air.

Solevia watched from the sidelines, a faint smile playing on her lips as she observed the revelry. Over the years, she had seen the sect grow and flourish, and though she had initially resisted, she had come to regard this place as her home.

Jason, however, remained apart from the festivities, his gaze distant. When the celebration began to wind down, he approached Solevia, his expression unreadable.

"Solevia," He said quietly, "come with me."

She raised an eyebrow, surprised by the sudden request. "Where?"

"You'll see."

The cryptic response piqued her curiosity, and she followed him without further question.

They walked in silence, leaving the illuminated halls behind and ascending a steep, winding path that led high into the mountains.

The air grew colder with each step, and the stars above seemed to burn brighter against the inky blackness of the night.

The two of them left the Boundless Continent and wandered into the black universe.

Finally, they reached their destination—a solitary peak shrouded in an eerie stillness. The ground fell away into an abyss so vast and dark that it seemed to devour the light itself. The faint sound of the wind whistling through the void added an air of unease.

Solevia shivered, both from the cold and the oppressive weight of the place.

"What is this place?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Jason stepped closer to the edge, his gaze fixed on the endless darkness below.

"This is where all things end," He said, his voice low and enigmatic. "A place beyond comprehension, where even the gods hold no sway. Anyone who falls here is erased from existence—gone, forever."

Solevia took an instinctive step back, her heart racing. "Why did you bring me here?"

Jason turned to face her, his expression solemn. "You'll understand soon enough. But for now, remember this place, Solevia. It is more than a void—it is a boundary, a reminder of the fragile line we walk between existence and oblivion."

The weight of his words pressed down on her, filling her with unease. She opened her mouth to speak, to demand answers, but the look in Jason's eyes silenced her. There was something final in his gaze, a sense that whatever was coming next would change everything.

And as she stood there, staring into the abyss, a single question echoed in her mind.

Why did Jason bring me here?
