"You know, when you put it like that, you remind me of all the crazy things we've been through." Matt chuckled.
"Yes, so don't expect us to ever have a normal conversation." Maddie said.
"That's just a convenient excuse, we can talk about normal things, you just choose to add some abnormal things into the mix." Annie frowned.
"Yeah, yeah, it doesn't matter, I will look forward to the day we can talk about something abnormal without you all condemning me instantly." Maddie scoffed.
Ollie simply chuckled and shook his head, watching their little banter, he could not help but think of how much he would miss them when they finally left.
"What's so funny to you blondie?" Maddie looked at him and asked.
"Nothing, it's just that, I'm really going to miss you guys." He smiled.
"Aww, we are going to miss you too Ollie." Annie said.
"Can you stop acting as if we are leaving right now? We still have the rest of the day." Maddie frowned.
"I know, I know, but I can't help myself." Ollie said as he frowned, he did not want to feel this way, but he did and he didn't want to make them sad, but he did.
"Don't apologize Ollie, it's not your fault, Maddie is just being inconsiderate as always." Annie said.
"Hey, let's not start this again. I don't want us to fight." Maddie said, she rubbed her hands on the soft grass, it felt so good in between her fingers. She wondered how this fake grass felt better than any real grass she had felt.
"Maddie's right, let's not start arguing." Ollie said.
"Alright, so since we are all clearly bored, what should we talk about?" Maddie asked. Annie sighed and closed the book in her hand, not because she was bored, but because she knew that Maddie wouldn't stop talking until she had everyone's attention.
"No, we're not bored, but you won't stop talking until we're bored of hearing the sound of your voice." Annie scoffed.
"Well my voice is rather melodious, I doubt you could ever be bored of it." Maddie said proudly. Annie scoffed at her and rolled her eyes, she knew she was being mean with Maddie, but that was the only way she could make sure that Maddie was in control.
Annie had realized that lately she had been meaner to Maddie lately, that wasn't because she hated her, no, it was because she loved her. They had been friends for a long while now, which meant that there were some harsh truths she would say confidently for the sake of the better well-being of both of them.
"Anyway, moving on, maybe we should talk about how elongated Matt's face is." Maddie said.
"Oh wait, no way, no way, you're not going to choose me as the subject of your conversation." Matt said shaking his head instantly.
"But it's true, your face is a bit elongated from your nose to your chin." Maddie said, she did not sound like she would stop her teasing.
Ollie could not help but laugh, Maddie was itching to cause some trouble and Matt was not prepared to deal with that.
"Oh really now? If it was that true you would not have tried so eagerly to be my friend when we first met." Matt said winking at her.
"Don't flatter yourself Matt. The only reason I wanted to be your friend was because you were a ginger, and I've never had a ginger as my friend before." Maddie said as if what she had just said made any sense.
Matt looked at her with an unreadable expression on his way. It was times like these that reminded him not to ever try to beat Maddie at her own game.
"That makes no sense at all." Ollie frowned, Annie almost laughed at the extremely confused expression on his face.
"No, it makes perfect sense. I never had a ginger haired person as my friend before and I wanted to add him to my collection." Maddie responded.
"You're making it sound even weirder now." Ollie said.
"No I'm not, think about it blondie, you're a blondie, have you had friends that have been blondies as well?" she asked him.
"Well you know I didn't really have friends till I met you guys." Ollie said.
"Whatever, not friends per se but acquaintances, have you had blonde acquaintances before?" she asked him.
Ollie felt something warning him not to answer her question, this had to be the weirdest question she had asked him. But he pushed away all his warnings and answered her anyway.
"Well yes." He replied.
"And brunettes?" she asked and he nodded.
"And dark-haired people?" He nodded as well.
"And red-haired people?" she asked again.
"Where exactly is this going?" Ollie asked as Matt laughed, he shouldn't have answered her in the first place.
"I'm just trying to say that you've met different people with different hair colours, I on the other hand had never had a ginger-haired friend like my lovely Matty boy." Maddie smiled at him and winked as he scoffed.
"Oh, so you actually were only me friend because of my hair colour?" Matt asked laughing.
"No, I thought she was your friend because she wanted to date you and add you to her collection of short-term boyfriends." Annie laughed.
"Yeah, I forgot about that, you had a reputation for dumping dudes on a daily basis." Matt laughed.
"She did?" Ollie asked, he did not know why he sounded surprised.
"Mhmm, yes I did, what? It's not a crime? It's not my fault I'm irresistible." Maddie flipped her hair.
"No you're not." Annie laughed shaking her head. Maddie could be so annoying sometimes.
"Yes I am, but I never wanted Matt to be my boyfriend, never, he's never crossed my mind as a potential boyfriend." Maddie said clearly.
"But you know that was then, who knows, maybe love can blossom out of this." Maddie said looking at Matt, she batted her eyelashes at him. Matt pretended to vomit.
"I would never date you Maddie, not even if you were the last woman on earth." Matt said strongly.
"The feeling is mutual too, we all know that you only have eyes for on—"
"Don't go there, let's talk about something else. The conversation became weird once again." Matt sighed.
Maddie simply cackled, she knew Matt would cut her off, he was such a coward. No wonder she was certain that it would be a long while before the girl he loved knew he loved her.
"You are just to damn nice Matt, and that's going to be why you'll remain single for a very, very long time." Maddie said.
"Why a very, very long time instead of forever?" Matt asked suspicious of Maddie's compliment. Yes, that was a compliment.
"Well because you're attractive and some girls will go bonkers for you." Maddie said as Ollie laughed, he could not believe Maddie just said such.
"Gee, thanks Maddie." Matt scoffed.
"Yeah, and you being the nice guy you are, will simply lead them on because you do not want to make them sad, but eventually after a few years you will marry the love of your life that you could have been with from the beginning if only you had said so." Maddie smiled.
"Why are you narrating the story of my life that is yet to begin?" Matt asked annoyed.
"I'm just saying, you are too nice." Maddie said.
"And there's nothing wrong with being too nice." Annie said. "I like that he's nice." She smiled.
"Thanks Annie." Matt smiled at her.
"I agree as well, there's nothing wrong with being too nice, just don't be too gullible." Ollie said.
"I agree, being gullible is a curse." Maddie said scoffing. "I could never allow myself to be as gullible as some people who get easy carried away by others."
"Yeah, but you have to admit, some people are just not that gullible, they happen to have some really manipulative people in their lives who they trust." Annie frowned.
"Well they shouldn't have such people in their lives." Maddie said. "You came to this world alone and you'll leave alone, that's just how it is." She frowned.
"That is true Maddie, but you know that just because you came to this world alone doesn't mean you should live it alone." Ollie said.
"Think about it, you're not always alone, you're born to parents, you may or may not have siblings and you can find some great friends to share the journey of your life with." He smiled.
"That's really true Ollie, I agree with you truly." Annie smiled at him.
"Thanks." Ollie smiled at her.
"It's really easy to tell people not to act a certain way or have certain friends when you are not in their shoes at all." He said.
"Sure, it's easy to say just never allow someone manipulative in your life, sometimes that person is a parent, a sibling, a cousin." Ollie said. "It's almost impossible to leave them, you just need to learn to be strong and have your own thoughts and opinions."
