Cherreads

Chapter 2 - This won’t change the story, right?

Ever since the coming-of-age party, my life has followed the path of tranquility. The lessons of etiquette, dancing, tea-pouring, and other lessons required for a noble have come to and end. I'm from a Marquess family, so it's natural to know how to be elegant but I didn't think it would be rigorously difficult to dance.

As I was dressing up warmly, a carriage was prepared and Sasha hummed to herself happily, "My lady, you look good as always!" she cheered, the usual glitter in her eyes were visible. The reason for that was because of today's event.

The day where girls from the coming-of-age party gather together and have a tea party. It was also this time where they gang up on Margaret and drive her into a corner until she runs away, crying. Then, somewhere at the garden she runs into the crown prince who happens to be there.

"Vanilla right? My, you're so beautiful" one of the ladies complimented me as I glance at Margaret who seemed down from hearing that. It wasn't only myself that was showered with compliments, but the others as well. The only person who wasn't given a comment was Margaret.

Geez, if this happened in real life I would have smack the shit out of them. Margaret is so beautiful with her lilac colored hair, so how can they ignore her?

"Lady Margaret, you're stunning today" I couldn't hold back my compliment as I smiled at her. It really hurts my heart seeing the protagonist being bullied right in front of me.

This won't change the story right? I mean it's just a little compliment.

As we all sat down to drink our tea and enjoy the slices of cakes, they took this chance to start a topic about how handsome the crown prince was, "Right? He's like an angel who descended from the heavens!" one of them says.

"I agree. I think Lady Anna deserves him the best. Don't they make a great pair unlike someone gloomy over there" The attacks began. The harsh words pierced through the protagonist heart while I sat here, drinking the tea in silence.

Lady Anna was the final boss of this story. She's the antagonist and the one who tries to kill Margaret by using black magic.

"Oh? The gloomy girl? Who even invited her?"

"Aha. Oh stop it guys, the negativity around her might spread"

"Oh my. Lady Margaret you look like you're about to cry. Is something the matt-"

Before the ladies could continue their endless attack, Margaret gets up with teary eyes and ran to the direction of the crown prince.

I'm sorry Margaret, I can't say anything because you need to meet the crown prince. Otherwise, he wont grow interested and there will be nobody to protect you. But still, I can't let this go, "It's not good to make an enemy out of a duke's daughter" I started and sip my tea.

Everyone's attention turned to me as they each raised their brow in confusion, "So what if she's a duke's daughter? She's ugly and stupid"

"She's a Duke's daughter. Do you not understand me?" I repeated myself in a serious manner while taking a small sip of my tea. They were irritating my soul so I decided to leave after having the last say. There's no reason for me to keep communicating with people who bad mouth others without a reason.

This won't change the story right? I'm just a side character anyway.

As I made my way home, I let out a heavy sigh. At times like these, desserts are the best. How about shave ice or ice cream? I should ask the cook for some, "Hey Chef!" I barged into the kitchen as soon as I arrived home, "Make me some shave ice" I demanded, but they all simply gave me the silent stare and confused expression as if they have absolutely no idea what Im talking about.

"My lady, what is that?" they ask, causing me to mentally gasp in shock.

How could that be? How could a world without shave ice exist? How am I supposed to relieve my boredom and stress now?!

"Give me a bowl, shaved ice, condensed milk-" I demanded from everyone as they quickly gave me the things I asked for. Making cheesecake shaved ice is easy so I hurried myself to make one while the servants were nervous at my actions.

It's not normal for a noble to go inside the kitchen and make food themselves so it was quite a shocking sight for them, but they'll surely like the result, "Finally!" I raise the bowl filled with ice.

"You guys can have the rest. Bye then!" I cheered and ran to my room as I read more books from the library.

The shave ice isn't as delicious as the one in my previous life but it was still nostalgic and yummy that I could probably eat another gallon of it, but I'm gaining weight these days and it's so hard to wear corsets. I should lose weight first.

The next day, I woke up extra early to jog. It was a shame that running shoes did not exist so I had to run with the female boots that the maids offered me tiredly this morning. However, as I was running, I ran into a mysterious man that gave me a weird feeling.

He had wrinkles on his face, but he was still handsome. His beauty is hidden beneath that ugly robe he's wearing, "Lady, it seems you have an impressive amount of mana in you. Will you allow this old man to teach you how to control it?" he ask while smiling.

Normally, I would have ran away from him or cursed at this man, but despite the suspicion I had, the idea of magic plus his handsome face made me succumb to his offer.

"Then how about teaching me now?" I smile eagerly and prepared to listen to his instructions. After that first encounter with him, I would always meet him early in the morning to train until I could grasp my magic well.

Even after weeks have passed, I still couldn't believe at how well I was able to use my magic, but I wonder? Who is this old man and why is he wandering around the forest?

"Master, tell me about yourself. I pretty much talk to you about my life, so what about you?" I ask while practicing my lightning ability that he instructed me to do.

"Jenny, this old man can no longer stay here. I have taught you everything that I know. Use them well, understood?" He pats my head as I raise a brow.

"And where are you going? Can I come with you?"

"Unfortunately, you can't. Maybe one day, we will meet again. Until then," he hugged me for a brief moment before completely disappearing.

As expected of my master, Magic is so easy for him to cast.
