Typically, Fang Zheng's method for burning firewood essentially involved using the Primordial Fire to completely incinerate the individual first, then taking the firewood back to the Ritual Site. There, through the "squeezing" and "refining" processes of the Soulfire, it would be transformed into "energy" that could be used to sustain the burning of the Soulfire.
However, this time, Fang Zheng did not allow Soren to undergo this process. Instead, he applied the entire set of procedures directly to Soren—while she was still alive.
